i can vouch for the 2jzge non hydro pump as a direct swap for the 1jzgte hydro
only thing i had to do was block a water outlet on the front housing as it wasnt on the original hydro pump
cant remember exactly the price i paid but it was cheaper than i thought it would be..
from memory i think i got told that u couldnt buy just the front or just the rear housing u had to buy the whole setup.. but i could be wrong
couldn't justify the price of a genuine pulley so i ebayed an alloy one......
havent had a drama with it ever
What is the point of going to all this trouble, am i missing something? I bought a 1JZ non hydro water pump from Toyota about a month ago it was $99.62.
For what its worth they changed the castings for the pumps at some point in the past, as when i went to change my pump today the rear half and front half joining bolts didnt mate up. The block and pipe mounting bolts were the same though.
Nat, not all of the non-hydro pumps are the same, the 1/2JZ comes in several different plumbing varieties.

are you able to explain this with pikkies by any chance?
i have the jza70 supra 1j with the hydro setup, i have removed it all and went to put a 1j/2j waterpump in (one of ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com.au/TOYOTA-SUPRA-...item2eb188951b)
they are pretty much the same, the top bolts line up, but the bottom ones don't..
so do i have the wrong pump or just retarded and doing something wrong?
lemme know if you need pics to explain it
Cheers Ben
You need the complete assembly and not just the front half with the pump. They are basically a two peice water pump and you have the front half. If i were you, i would try and return the part or move it on and get a brand new pump assembly from Castle hill Toyota. The guys there know what they are talking about and are very helpful.

Some say that his heart has 6 cylinders. All we know, is he's called,
ah that makes sense!
how about a jza70 hydro setup on a 2jzgte? Do i need a computer or another ecm to control the setup? the pump and every thing fits.
fitted this myself man, water outlet pipe at the back of a GE pump fits, 1jzgte from a jzz30 and jza80 2jzgte pumps are exactly the same.. there difference on 1jz and 2jz is the water extension pipe to the top radiator hose outlet is longer on the 2jz because of the taller block.. tho, this extension pipe is removeable and isnt sold with a new pump anyways.. which is good cos it makes the pump universal
the hydro 1jz pumps can be fitted to and xjz engines tho im unsure loom or ecu control wise.. maybe it can be bypassed or controlled somehow?
btw all you really need is a pump backhousing, then you can get an aftermarket pump for sweet F**k all...
as you can see.. gte backhousing has water outlet extension pipe pointing UPWARDS..
and now a top view of a ge backhousing... water outlet pipe is pointing OUTWARDS..
thanks
I'm wondering why do people change the rear housing anyway, the front part is the actual pump.
So since this has been bumped already
Anyone got a rear housing since i need one to go from 1JZ thermo fan, to 1JZ just water pump
[Gentlemen's Club]
I change the rear housing as the geniune pumps come assembled with the rear housing and a nice new metal gasket between them.
