Default Best time to change gear (rpm)

Very noobish question but whats the best rpm to change gear to get the most power out of the car and quickest acceleration
At the moment I own a 1992 Toyota Corolla Seca SX Stock

    Thanks!

7853rpm, or as close to that as you can get.

Michael, have a run on a dyno. The RPM where you have achieved max torque, is a great gearshift point, 'cause anything after that is just noise.

    cheers Chuck.

Thanks, I might give it a go on a dyno then I might consider doing some work on the engine itself when I start working again lol

there are some good software simulations out there, I have a DOS style one called cartest, its good stuff.
I can email it for anyone that may want it - payment can be made in + rep

Hey that sounds good but Im no good with the whole computer side of things when it comes to cars?

Well, assuming you have an 86kw engine (I know nothing about Corollas but thats what one of the Corolla in the prog had) cartest tells me you should pull a 17.2 qtr, will lap the Nurburgring in 10mins 45sec and Laguna Seca in 2mins 27sec

Obviously the simulation assumes an awful lot of stuff like tyre quality etc but its all possible to change.
I cant find where the optimum gearshift section is yet ....

Its a 100kw fwd Engine in the SX series I believe, so everything is just done on the computer? You dont have to touch the car, sounds like an easy program lol

    If you can tell me

    peak kw @ rpm
    peak torque @ rpm

I can run it again, I will assume the gearing etc is all the same as the car on here.

Don't Seca SX's come with 4AFE's? Either way, I've tried shifting at the point of peak hp and beyond. I've been told before that shifting half the rpm drop between gears after peak hp is ideal because when you hit the next gear you are higher up in the revs = more hp... as for how this reflects on torque, I can't say... my torque curve was rather flat.

Mines a 4AGE engine, unless your a super fast gear changer then I suppose that you would want to go about the max peak for that reason.

How can I give you those Enchanter?

If it's an SX, it's got a 4age, and for acceleration you need all the revs you can get out of it. I agree with bigworm.

Yea thats what I assumed but I thought isnt there a point where u can change gears without using the clutch, I thought that would be the most efficient point?

In your car, always use the clutch when shifting gears.

High rpm, no use of clutch and you trying to change gears on a syncho-mesh gearbox will probably result in tears.

But if you do decide to give it a go make sure you film it for us, I'd aim for the high side of 9k rpm when doing it

changing gears without a clutch is all about matching the correct revs of the engine with your right foot to the revs of the gearbox.
Im sure half the people on toymods know the peak kw and torque figures of a 100kw 4age, Im not one of them though. You can search the net, I know it will be out there.

Edit: and I agree with YLD-16L, dont do it
