    Default rear wheels locking underpower

    Hi All,

Bit difficult to diagnose with words but I would appreciate some help. Today while taking off from the lights up a slight slope the rear wheels started locking (skidding and hopping) only when accelerating, in all gears, it appears not to be speed dependent but I was unable to get above 30km/h. Pulled over to check. no visible damage. half shafts appear fine. It only happens in forward. I was able to drive in reverse with no locking. I was able to coast forwards with clutch in, no locking. I was able to coast forwards clutch out, in neutral no locking (didn't try in gear with no power but gearbox is not making any abnormal noises). It is a clutch pack LSD diff. My guess is one of the pins that holds the spider gears/clutch pack has broken and is centrifuging out of place under accel and locking against the casing. Any other suggestions would be appreciated? before I pull the diff for a look on Sunday.

Thanks all I don't mind my misfortune being laughed at, I wish I broke it in a more exciting situtation than taking off at lights. I knew I broke something and I just wanted to confirm that everyone thought it was the diff before I pulled it out. Any way I got it out last night and am cracking it open later today. Q for SIKTOY did your cracked crown wheel damage the input pinion gear?

Even if the pinion gear looks ok you will need to replace it. If not there is a good chance it will be noisy and wear out really quick. The pinion and crownwheel are a matched pair and should be kept together.

you will find that the pinion and crown wheel, will both have an id number, these should not be interchanged as stated above.
