What u can do i make a bracket that will bolt next the the throttle body with a micro switch on it. So when the throttle is fully open it holds the switch down and injects the "NOS". It will only turn on at full throttle.
Hi..
I am in the process of building a mean 4age.. i was wondering about NOS.. say like a
30hp hit. Would this be possible with quad throttles..
What would i need to protect or strengthen..
I will have 288 cams, 8.9 lift,
toda cam gears,
Toda valve springs
hks timing belt,
i need..
20v throttles,
brass welsh plug,
ARC stud kit,
forged pistons,
gze rods,
shim kit.. blah blah.. etc
I just don't want to go turbo but i still want to be able to compete with the big boys. I am certain u can set it up for only full open throttle?
thoughts?

Evan might be worth while talking to the guys at Drift Battle to quiz them on the nos setup they used in the R31 wagon. Essentially it was used just like yours, to give them a quick cheap kick in the pants boost when they needed it out on track.
If in doubt power out
there was a good thread on NOS on performance forums not that long ago.
for a 30hp shot of nitrous.. you need to make sure the engine can take another 30hp of power..
to be honest, it's a simple as that.
all you are doing is increase the fuel and oxygen in the cylinder for a bigger bang.
so that means, perhaps you may need to adjust compression ratio (could you get another 30hp from it with a turbo and still be ok?)
you need to be absolutly sure that the fuel/nitrous ratio is correct, and that they arrive AT THE SAME TIME.. or else you rich bog... or lean out..
you may need to revise your rev limit, based ont he strength of your rods/rod bolts.
you may need to adjust ignition timing to suit (to prevent pinging)
think of it as a small turbo with extra effective intercooling, and change motor to suit.
you CAN run it at less than full throttle if you want.. you could even run at closed throttle, but it's more useful at full throttle (but not absolutely necessary to only have it then)
you must also consider the effect of coming on and off nitrous quickly/repeatedly... i'll let you look that up
brass plugs? aren't they usually brass? (they used to be...) what benefit are you getting from them (just wondering why it is in your list of shiny bits??)

welch plugs are either brass or steel usually. steel ones rust out, brass ones last a bit longer but still corrode. rubber would just pop out uner the 1 bar pressure of the cooling system.
these are the plugs that stop coolant flowing out of holes that were used to support the core during casting of the part. usually found on the sides of the block, or on the rear of a head (well.. K series bigports anyway)
are you talking about the half round rubber seals of the head in front of the cam?

No down on the block.. the lil bit that comes away from the block.. um..
it has the timing belt comes near it..
sorry i am an engine n00b

SHould i go with some GZE conrods instead of the stock 4age ones?

im considering doing the same on the soarer evan, except going for a 50 shot, maybe when a kick in the pants is required at the middle of fourth gear to get it on boost for either some long fishies or a big smokey bowl corner...
plus my mates at ADCO performance racing have a wet kit they arent using just sitting around the workshop![]()

there is a big diffrence between using nos to get a turbo spooling, and using it for intermittent bursts at full throttle on an NA motor..
pics of this rubber welch plug?

never said there wasnt a difference in what evan and I are trying to do...i was just stating that im considering using nitrous on my drifter also![]()

sorry Mr1J, i meant with the rods
for your application, nitrous is a fairly well trodden path and should work nicely..
with the rods.. there is a thread on here abotu difference between the GZE's and i believe it tells you abotu the rods...
in fact it is probably in the FAQ

To be honest Ev i think rods/bearings are the same for there respective models (bigport, small port, air flow meter, map sensored) only the pistons differ.Originally Posted by Evan
Although im likely to be wrong.
And if you choose NOS, check the legalitly of it in Drift Comps in OZ and maybe have a aftermarket ecu to run it for you, that way anychance of Pinging or detonation will be minimal if tuned by the right person.
Although that small list of goodies suggest NOS may not be needed anyways.
Cheers
Steve
there are two types of 4AGE conrods,
one type has 19mm little ends and 40mm big ends
the other has 20mm little ends and 42mm big ends.
might be other types, but not that i have heard of.
