    Default Auto Replacement

I tried looking thru the forums, but could not find anything that would help me, so i will post my questions here.

OK, I own a Cressida - present from my Dad, he upgraded to a 91 Grande, and i got his 89 model. The transmission is slipping from time to time, plays up when IT feels like it. My local mechanic put a trans kit thru it, but says it needs a replacement.

Is it worth getting replaced, and if so, anyone know where i could get a good deal on an exchange, or a replacement?

Is it harder to replace, than just a gearbox swap, like in, say, a manual toyota?
I am not too mechanically inclined, but in my younger days, swapped 5 speeds in my KE25, as i broke 4 4 speeds, and 3 5 speed boxes, due to my harsh treatment, and my constant silly buggeredness.

Is a manual swap worth it? Is it difficult? Is it worth it?

Have a budget of only $500, not much, but all i can spend.

    Any comments would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your time.

You should be able to pick up a 2nd hand one for next to nothing.
$100 tops. Guys doing Cressida conversions practically give away the old engine/gbox.

Find one in better condition than yours is touchy though, as you really won't know what condition its in until you drive it.

Its not that much more difficult than a manual swap.
Bit more involved here and there, bit less involved here and there.
Cressida has much less room in an engine bay than a Corolla, so some bolts will be harder to get to, but the principle is the same.

Thanks for the input, Cruz. I really appreciated it.

It has been more than 10 years now since i have done any semi serious work on any of my cars. Last car i worked on was my TE27 Levin. I remember replacing the rear engine seal, which was a bugger. I had to loosen the engine mounts, and slightly lift the motor, then drop the motor without the mounts to remove the splitcase celica gearbox in that car. Was a bit of a bugger, compared to just replacing the old gearboxes in my 25. But then again, gearboxes for that car never cost me over $25 a piece. Those were the days.

Now to find a cressida gearbox.

    Anyone have one lying around?....LOL

Makes me want to replace the whole engine /gearbox from my dormant crown wagon, and put it into my cressida. Hmmm, 7MGTE powered cressida. I think my Dad would kill me if i did. Hell, at 78, i still listen to him. He did give me his old cressida for nothing
