I'd imagine they would have designed the engine when 20W-40 was the going oil...So you'd probably be safe with a 15W-40 or even 10W-40 depending on how thrashed your engine is. If it blows lots of smoke - go with a thicker oil.
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know what oil Toyota recommend for a 4agze, because I'm going to change oil/filter this weekend and just want to be sure that I'm using the correct oil. I'm currently using castrol Magnatec 10W-40.
Thank you

how many kms on it and how does it feel? nothing wrong with going a thicker oil though, but yea important thing is to make sure what it's used to.. i.e. synthetic, semi or mineral.. if it's currently with mineral, stick to mineral.. but if it's semi or fully synthetic, you can stick to synthetic, go down one to semi synthetic or go with mineral if it's blowing oil![]()
what'll really bake ur noodle is what oil to put in the supercharger![]()
but yea i've seen people put in thin engine oil, thick engine oil and gear oil in it..
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
my gze's liked Penrite HPR5 semi synthetic.![]()
I've run Mobil 1 5w-?0w, HPR10 and HPR15 and it's been happy on all of them. HPR10 seem to be a good one though and is what I've used the last 3 or 4 oil changes. My engine has somewhere over 100,000km on it.

Agreed with the use of a semi synthetic around the 15W-50 mark.
I used Penrite HPR15 in my old 4age / 4agte... and then changed to Gulf Western semi-synth 15W50. Both offered fantastic performance in terms of longevity, oil pressure and temperature resistance.
...... butt scratcher?!
Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I think I'll give Penrite HR15 15W-40 a try because that is what the Penrite website recommend for a MR2 with 4age. I like their Limslip LSD oil so hopefully their engine oil is just as good.
Just out of interest..... Has anyone tried the Nulon 15w-50 full syn stuff. Or tried and 20w-50 full syn for that matter ?
