I believe that the e-manage blue cannot do timing.
The e-manage ultimate can do timing. Might be something to think aboot![]()
i realise theres another thread about the emanage on here, but i dont want to invade it with OT questions.
basically, ive been offered an Emanage and stock ECU for a trade of my Mines ECU + cash adjustment.
ive had a look all over the intahwebz, and im either finding people that swear by them, say they're the greatest thing since bricks and mortar, then theres the other side of the fence, mainly on here (sideshow etc.) that say they arent worth the effort etc...
i realise a SAFC will do much the same, but not as well, and im not after any flashy displays.
basically all i want from my motor is to reach the comfortable limit of the stock turbos (around 13-14.5psi) and i want to do it as efficiently as possible.
my 1J gets awesome fuel mileage, around 12L/100k's (remember it is a 2.5 litre twin turbo pushing a cruise liner) so im not expecting much of a gain there, but if anything, id prefer that fuel used be more efficiently to make more power..
if you get what i mean?

AFAIK it can do timing but not independently like the EMU.
If I had a stock ecu I would use one. For some good results with using Emanages talk to Cihan Aday on Soarercentral. He has tuned a lot of them.
2 examples
His car, stock turbos, normal mods, retarded exh cam gear, 239rwkw@16psi.
Maurice diggler: high flowed turbos, 17psi (IIRC), normal mods, 255rwkw.
Both have been backed up with trap speeds. Maurice has gone 111 or 112 from memory.
I think they are a hell of a lot better than a safc. Biggest thing being datalogging. Getting accurate data from your ecu is a great tool to have IMO.
E-manage blue with both ignition and fuel harness can do timing and fuel on the 1jz.
A good webiste for info is http://www.mohdparts.com/emanage/
I believe from memory the 1jz has groupd fire injectors, and that you are required to parrallel two injectors wires for each of the three feeds to the injectors. I'm also pretty sure that you have independat timing. Which means you cut each timing out wire from teh ECU and insert the E-manage in-line with this so you can advance and retard timing by +-20%.
There are total of three fuel maps that can be used. The first is a TPS v's RPM Map which purely adjusts the MAP sensor output relative to the input, ie you add fuel it add's MAP signal, you remove fuel it removes MAP signal. The second is the Additional injector map which allows you to ADD only, but it's a MAP v's RPM table (This is the one I use for tuning). The third is only relevant if you are using additional injectors.

excellent, cheers for the info!
yes, it can do ignition and fuel, and ive got some more info on the kit, it comes new in box with the ignition and fuel wiring harnesses, the only thing missing is the 3 BAR pressure sensor, which ill have to find myself, dunno what the retail is on those..
Ok, sounds like a good option then, pending price sounds like ill take it, ill give a ring to the workshops around me and see if any of them are happy to tune it, if not, ill have a go at it myself, i mean, its a 1J, whats the worst that could happen
im hoping for 300-330 (wishing!) rwhp after i upgrade the dumps, install my HKS FMIC and add a bit more boost. hopefully i should be able to do that relatively safely, and not put the turbos in any danger due to extremely hot exhaust temps.

I was in the same boat Eldar, but the thing that turned me away from one was the lack of anyone decent in Perth to tune the emanage.
So i just bought an SAFC2.
I dunno how close to your goals you'll come... That's getting up there for the 1jz twins...
From what I've found Nengun (SP) is the best place to buy the pressure sensor and harness from in Australia. You might find that unless you want to run 16psi+ with the Factory MAP sensor you won't have too much of an issue with it reading, though you will have to clamp at roughly 4.3V output so as to not hit the boost cut. The e-manage will happily read to teh max output of the sensor though, so you can add fuel for these load points on top of teh factory setting if you are not already running 100% duty from the factory ECU.

If you only intent on running a little more than 15psi (which is probably right on stock twins) then I wouldn't bother with the 3 bar map.
From what I have seen if you run say 17psi and tune it for 17psi then all you have is a brief rich spot where it goes past 15psi.
One of the most important aspects with these is getting the correct sized injectors. AFAIK it is better to use ones that are close to stock duty cycle ie. bad idea to put 720cc in if you are making 300rwhp. But I would definitely talk to Cihan about them as he really does know his shit.
I think most people get to around 300rwhp or 225rwkw with dumps, FMIC about 16psi and a decent tune. I don't think 330rwhp is a good idea. That will need about 18-19psi I would think and that is probably a bit too far for stockers.
With 225rwkw you should trap around 108mph![]()
well im basing it all off wildsupra here running 297rwhp on 13psi, i realise every car is different, but in terms of setup, i plan on having something very similar, and cause of the "brand name" cooler over the chinese one he's using, i think that'll have a bit more gain, but then again, anything near 300rwhp will make me a happy boy.
Endless, did you find anyone at all to tune it? or just no-one you trusted with your car? if the price is right, im willing to research into it and find how to tune it myself, as i can hopefully borrow my mates laptop and have a go, although a wideband is also on my list...
ideally a low 13 would make for a very streetable car, and probably as quick as i want to go with the stock twins, as i dont want to kill them just yet
Elmo.
I'm done emanages on a heap of cars including a couple of 1J's now, they work really well. The people that rubbish them and compare them to SAFC's dont know how to get the best out of the emanage or are expecting too much from a $400-500 device.
On a 1J running 13-14psi you wont need the optional map sensor. You can use a GM 3 bar map sensor if you like, I'll post up the wiring diagram for how to make that work.
With your timing adjustments you have to be careful, if you get too greedy with ignition advance and the ECU picks up too much knock, the ECU will pull out all the timing advance and you'll be worse off than stock. That's the downfall of the emanage and all other piggyback devices, but it's also a slight advantage as the stock ECU can still protect the engine to a degree if you mess up totally with the tuning.
You can use the boost cut clamp to set the max map sensor voltage so the stock ECU wont boot cut, I think my last 1J was set to 4.3V to avoid boost cut.
They're a handy little unit, I'm wanting to check out the emanage ultimate as it has a bunch more features and doesn't need the stupid proprietary tuning cable that the emanage blue does.
Jason
I wont adjust, or even install anything until ive had a good read and at least got a basic understanding of how to tune etc.
i know a little bit now, but not barely enough to undertake it.
id like, if possible, to install it, and hook up a laptop to at least familiarize myself with it, if i get a stock 1JZ map, can i install it without it altering the tune too much? so i can still drive it untuned, but start tuning it when im ready?
sounds like my MAP sensor should be fine then, thats a bit of a relief
Elmo.
you can zero the whole unit, and the car will drive as if the emanage is not installed.
On my 1J chaser I installed the emanage primarily to get rid of the boost cut, I also took some fuel out of the midrange as it was running super rich on the stock ECU.
That car has now had the wick wound up and is putting down 240kw atw with the emanage on 17psi.
mines running a bit rich too.
excellent, just the info i needed! id rep you again if i could
Elmo.
make sur eit comes with the timing plug and harness
when u buy a new emange i dont think u get that
u have to order it seperate as a customer of mine found out 2 weeks ago
everything is included, not just the e manage unit!
phucken apexi, why did they have to go under? i wanted a Power FC
