to the monster Actually, it goes to the tacho output of your ECU. If you dont have a Tacho output on your ecu, then its the tacho output of your coil. Be careful doing this though, as you can interfere with the readings of your ECU.

Excercise a bit of caution if you're going to try and wire it up yourself. A friend-of-a-friend tried to wire up a tacho himself, didn't exactly know what he was doing. Fried the ECU. I think that taught him a lesson sufficiently.

    agreed with tats.

The fact the camry is a CSi means that its injected, im assuming a 3SFE 2L. if you wire it directly to the coil, you may run into troubles. search the forums and google for pinouts of your ecu. Also, check your haynes or gregory manual(a must if you are going to DIY anything, and havent had extensive experience with multiple cars).

When i wired up a mate's tacho in a ae93 sx, i used a RPM signal that sits behind the Diagnostics box for external gauges.

I have a haynes or gregory manual around the house for your model camry. I can check for you when i find it.

If you cant find the pin out diagram you could splice off hte 'IGN -ve' plug on the diagnostics plug.

As an electrical engineer, and fellow toymodder... i strongly suggest against farkin with the wire that goes between ya coil and the ECU. The loading on that wire can become intermittantly too heavily loaded for the ECU to pick up a proper signal, and it can easily become an UBER hard to trace fault... even after several years of faultless operation. It only takes one lean out at high rpm and heavy load to burn a hole in ya piston.

to the side of the diagnostic plug under the bonnet will be a socket marked IG, its seperate to the other pins in the diag plug. Use this for the signal for the tach and you shouldn't have any problems. Just be careful with the wire that you run, make sure that the joins are well insulated etc if you short this pin to ground the car won't run
