ok ive got a ke10 rolla... just finished puttin a 5k twin s.u`s bit of head work cam an etc... 5spd.. its goin alrite but theres a problem..?? i cant stop the thing!is got the orig drum brakes.. an i wanna put discs on it.. can u give me sum help..?? i kno u can put ke20 hubs on an use ke30..35 on an on calipers but..i`m findin it hard to come across ke20hubs.. so i was wondering if i can use ke30-ke70 hubs an discs..an wats involed to fit em.. cheers an thanks alot for u help an time..

you can use the later hubs, but then you change the stud pattern.

someone on here will have KE20 hubs..

or you can use KE15/17 disc brake hubs.

you can use any of the calipers, BUT most aussie KE70 have a different bolt pattern to the backing plate. the imported SEA (south east asia) KE70's DO have a square pattern and bolt up...

this was covered in depth on old forus.. dig up those threads

thanks dude soo if i get an old ke30-50.. i shud be able to bolt those hubs..discs..calipers straight on.. im not worries at all bout bolt patterns..an will they work alrite with no booster..cheers mate. an i`ll look those ols threads up//

Maybe I'm misinformed here so let me know if I'm wrong.

Drum brakes are as effective as disc brakes in stopping. Sometimes moreso 'cos they often have a greater surface area for contact. However, drum brakes cannot lose their heat as effectively as disc brakes and this is what kills them. For constant applications the disc brakes are more effectvie 'cos they run cooler.

You'd be better off upgrading your front disc brakes before converting the rear drums to disc.

Is this correct, or am I foolishly misinformed?

yeah thats true... thats wat were talkin bout... my drums brakes arent real bad with stopin but there a real bitch to keep adjusting them every week an after the second hard brake applaction they just give up!

I had this word document lying around, i assume written by someone on this forum (Tyron Utley?), detailing a brake upgrade for ke10s, using a honda disc of some sort. well, theres obviously something amiss if putting on your hand brake munts your brakes...?

If this is the case, i would suggest maybe replacing the brakes, rather than upgrading them, as a newer/different set may not have the same problem(s).

boys boys, we are talking about FRONT DRUM BRAKES
as original on KE10's

although they are set up to have two leading shoes.. they are actually pretty abysmal at stopping, they have nice initial bite, but after that, your press more and not much happens...

they just... kinda suck.... and they are NOT self adjusting either, so the get sloppy real quick...

so yeah.. front brakes
