The way i see it, only the ecu should be doing the switching. There is too much room for human error otherwise. If you need to save petrol, you need to drive off boost.
Your'e probably right fellas I think im being a bit paranoid - those Celica boys into 18 R motors can still get parts for their ancient cars (ribbing intendedand these sc clutches seem to survive well too.
Some Previas use an sc14 with a slightly different pulley to the 1GGZE and was sold around the mid to later 1990s. (the pulley was slightly smaller than 1G and had 2 extra ribs from memory). According to Wikipedia it was a common car in the states ... so there should be spares aplenty.

If you are worried about your licence and fuel economy then don't buy a performance engine. End of story.
