Microswitches are used alot in pneumatics. In the water industry, we use microswitches inside valve positioners to say whether valves are open or closed etc. Depending on the setup, I think they can be used in either a powered signal of 12V, ( on / off ), or a 4-20mA ( variable ) signal.
I know you have found another method of setup, but this might be an option if you have trouble. They are quite often just a small roller on a rocker arm. This could work perfect for throttle sensing.
Someone like SMC pneumatics, or a pneumatic valve company like Keystone ( owned by TYCO now i think ) would be a good place to start. I'm sure they could be available through an electronic / automation supplier too.
Only worth a couple of dollars.
