To drop replace a gearbox on an AE82 cant be much different than on AE92
Should be about 3 hours.
Undo the clutch slave, thermostat etc and unplug wires...
Loosen wheel nuts and jack up as high as you can and put on stands, check its nice and safe, take wheels off place the wheels under the rails near the driver and passenger doors.
Get a mate to stand on the brakes, undo the inner CV's pull the shafts up and toward the firewall. Tie it up back there somewhere.
While your down there, loosen what you can of the 6 or so bolts that are around the gearbox housing.
Support the engine with a jack, under the sump (use a bit of wood as well).
Put an 2nd jack under the gearbox, make sure it wont slip away...
Call some mates, give them a coke cause they just need wait around for a bit, just in case you get flattened, but you could do with them later..
Undo the 'cross-member' remember to undo the mounts..
Loosen the Drivers side engine mount, undo the passenger side.
Check that nothing is still attached to the gearbox
Lower gearbox jack a bit and engine jack, let the whole engine tilt
Undo 6 or so bolts that hold the gearbox on, its heaps easier to get at them now
Shimmy, wobble, pry at the thing, I find that you can do it by yourself if you get the angle right by leaning over the passenger guard and hugging the gearbox. (dont hurt yourself) its well heavy and you are not in a good lifting position.) This is where your mates come in handy..
If it does not come loose, check you have undone everything... It will go with a wiggle and a bit of yelling... Its not the worst bit of the job anyway.. (You still have to get it back on!!)
Reverse the above process...
I once found a whole list of Toyota FWD ratios, it is now gone but since we are comparing the 50,52 and the 56.
