Going past the wreckers/smash repairers yesterday and I noticed two horns still attached to one of the vehicles piled up outside ready for the metal recyclers. The bottom one was a SAAB and the top car was a Renault 19.

The twin horns were each attached to the Renault by a 13mm nut (bl00dy froggies) so I had to go home and get a 13mm socket as I only had 10 & 12mm in the car. They were easy to remove - took about 10 secs as they were mounted directly on front (bumper bar had been removed).

These horns are setup exactly the same as the FIAMM units described above, in fact, they look like knock-offs but a search around the web suggests they have as big a reputation as FIAMM.

    Here's the specifications:

Stebel TM80 Twin (High & Low single note car horns)
    Made in Italy (Stebel website)

    Low horn - 410Hz / High horn - 500Hz
    133dBa at 5cm / 109dBa at 2m

    Weight - 225g

Can be setup from single / dual / single to dual terminal power supply.

    Fitting Instructions

I'm going to clean them up and fit them to Lux for comparative purposes.

    Cheers,

    Peter

A 16yo kid I used to work with loved doing that. He thought it was funny as, until he did it to the boss one day, and the boss' head hit the bonnet catch as he jumped up. The boss was very pissed off! He grabbed the kid and dragged him over to the toilet door, held him against it about a foot off the ground and stapled his overalls to the wooden door with an air powered staple gun. The kid was swinging on the door and couldn't get down. Now THAT was funny.

    hahahhaaha... that's funny.

I got Marcus (Turdinator) a good one on Friday night. The thermofan on his TA22 had stopped working and he opened the bonnet to check the fuse. I beeped the horn as soon as he touched the fuse holder which happened to be about 15cm from the horn. He jumped back and dropped his mobile phone, which he was using as a torch, on the road. One of the best reactions i've got yet. hehehehe.

    Thanks for the wiring diagram

I've got Hella version of the Fiamm horns as I couldn't find Fiamm in the area. When I found a set, I brought 3 sets... and those have installed our family cars. They are great and I love it... Sounds like a Falcon Taxi when I blow the horn

Air horns are better but are they illegal to use? I've got a mate who was possible to get a truck horn in his car...

    Cheers.

I think the red ones above in oldrollas pics are legal in SA, but as all novelty products i recall seeing "for off road use only" on the box. I had them on my ta22, when the compressor got old, only one of the horns would sound a high shreek. I was always ridiculed about the setup, even in good working order i was told it sounded girls like

For some reason the ones that play "La- Cu- Ca- Racha, La- Cu- Ca- Racha, La- Cu- Ca- Racha" arenot legal. Some asswipe would play them all weekend, its was tops.

I've got a set off a BMW 3 series fitted to my car.
It certainly means people can hear you, even on the motorway when you're a little bit further away.
I wanted them after having a decent horn on the car in Europe last year. The jap version is too polite

Good thing about the BMW ones is that are alrady wired like the Toyota versions. ie 2 wires to be attached.
Don't get Renault versions (I originally got some off a Renault 19) because they have only one wire & then the horn is earthed out.

Search the Euro section at your nearest wrecker (I got mine for $30)
