look at my thread in the conversion section - i have done a series 2 (vp pre ecotec)motor converison. These are better as they have a steel sump which is easier to modify. It also depends on if its 2wd or 4wd as to the costs incurred. The pre ecotec motor has a lot more balls and is very good for a utility..
Cost also depends on whether you keep it auto or go manual....bellhousings etc arent cheap. I used the commodore auto in mine, with a few mods to the tranny mount it fitted perfect.

sounds like a good buy for a manual. i'd have a good look at it first, and do a compression test on it to be on the safe side. although 300 bucks for the gbox plus shitloads of motor spares is still a good deal.
all 2WD hilux's came with a G series diff or better i.e. they're really strong e.g. 400+hp.
go for it, just be prepared to spend extra money on unexpected stuff, and fuel![]()
beer me!
wow 400+ that diff's wasted on my shitty 3Y engine lol, and i'll buy it if it kicks over. But the guy doesnt know if it will, and he just needs a radiator to see if it'll kick it over.Originally Posted by joecoolmk2
you dont need a radiator to see if it kicks over...you dont need to run it for long to knwo if its shagged or not...FYI later model hilux lsds bolt in tooOr if youre feeling like you want to spend some money, a supra one fits with mods.
