Having the bigger sump would help your temp no end though Joel.

Yeah must be it, more oil for the heat to dissipate through, more surface area to get rid of the heat.

oil temps are only part of the factor of wear and tear..

i'd change my oil early if i was pushing the engine harder than the usual normal everyday driving, for extended periods (e.g. track / drag / race event), simply because the oil becomes dirtier quicker.. but yea fully synthetics can go for longer, but still i'd change early if i have to

on the flip side the f2000 racecars had the oil changed every month but they were flogged 6 days a week for probably100 laps a day altho they did leak alot of oil so with the ammount they were topped up the oil probably got changed 2 times a month lol

the motors used to last 3 seasons which isnt too shabby but its not like they were anything special or rev'd hard at all and they ran a full synthetic

5 super sprints and may be 3 or 4 dyno runs tuning wise ,allways after more power ,but i use mobil 1/ 5 w 50 full syn oil and i also go by the color as well ,also what you can do to save money is buy the oil in 20 liter drums as well

I was using hpr15 in my 4agte but switched to penrite syn15 and the engine seemed to rev smoother.

Changed after every trackday. Everyone using HPR15 and getting good results has me thinking though, i mean it's about half the price. Has anyone used it long term? How are you engines running?

    cheers

my sump only holds 4.5 ltrs all up, including the oil cooler.....

so i change it after every track day, i only use semi synthetic that we have here at work...doesnt cost me anything,....

change the filter every 2nd oil change, with an engine flush to clean it out,

i do brake fluid every 6 months, aswell with the clutch fluid

box oil ive done 2 times last year,..

diff i do every 12 months....

no other fluids to be changed other than that....

Holy shit Blake, what sump are you using? I've got a GX81 sump on mine, and without an oil cooler, mine takes a smidge under 5L with an oil filter change!

Joel, more oil holds you in good stead but at the end of the day why skimp?...a tank of fuel can be $70 easy these days and no one really bats an eye at burning thru that.

$140 is small change in the long run if it saves you an engine, or even extends the engine's life.

For mine, track day equals oil/filter change...simple as that.

another vote for HPR15, i use it and nothing has exploded yet.

don't think of an oil change in terms of how many bottles it takes, you are crazy if you don;t buy oil by the 20 litre drum, 20 litres of HPR15 costs me 110-120 bucks.

i use castrol edge 10/60 and change it after every second race meeting (about 3 hours of full power running)

SAF/XF in both diff and gearbox after every 3rd meeting

i had one engine last for a few years with bad sump surge problems at first, run without changing it as often, and hours apon hours of brutal redline caining.....

on tear down after finally burning a piston i was expecting to see some wear but bearings and everything were unbelievably immaculate!!!

top drag teams change it after only 10 seconds running .....
