some good reminders in this thread, (time to change my trans oil again)
Oil should be replaced when it has been over heated, contaminated by LONG term use, or contaminated from a mechanical problem - metal or water. The oil itself doesn't wearout, ever, but it does lose most of its additives.
We've got to figure out that the manufacturers term 'Severe use' for more frequent oil changes is completely opposite of what most think.
Track days are NOT "Severe use, and while the oil has certainly gotten hot, it has not been overheated unless there has also been mechanical damage & will have a nasty smell.
Old ladies & kids/squirrels that have frequent start ups with short run times ARE 'Severe use'.
