Default How to change W5* shifter position?

Okay, I have a W58 with a rear mount shifter and want to swap the mid-ish mount shifter from a W55 I have. I've done a bit of a search but the results were a bit un-clear.
Havent pulled the W55 from the car yet so I havent had a good look at both boxes.
Can I just swap the bit the shifter goes into and the bit that goes on the selector rod?
Or do I need to change the rod as well? and the extension housing?

You have to split the case apart and slide the extension housing off.
You will then beable to remove the internal selector rod from its shaft by undoing the bolt and swap it over to the shorter rod to suit the mid mount shifter.

Make sure the box is in neutral when you pull it apart..

Extension housing is the same and doesnt need changing.

Undo the bolt on the selector rod before removing the housing if you can.
Because the selector rod actuator needs to come off WITH the rear housing (you'll know what I mean when you do it)

The whole thing is easy, but fiddly.

Be very careful putting it back together as its very easy to bump it into a gear, which means you'll have to pull it apart again.
