You guys are all crazy. The best option here is to go down to Lee Brothers Nut House @ North Parramatta (near the old jail) and buy some high tensile bolts from there. Youll pay about 1/4 the price for the exact same thing.

As for gearbox bolts your probably better off trying pick and payless or something like that. Self serve wreckers are better cause the stuffs mostly still in the car.

Clutch alignment by No.3 phillips head screwdriver FTW.. this is pretty much done by eye... I have never had a box hard to put in, and have done some clutch alignments under vehicle on jackstands.

Well you definitely don't want permanent stuff, unless you never plan to take the flywheel off again!

    No loctite at all.

Recently had a flywheel bolt failure and the engine builder suspects that's it's because we used loctite on them.

Apparantly it seals the threads and does not let the air out from behind the bolt and the bolt hydraulic's in the hole.

    You end up with this.

    - 500hp+ 7AGTE 20V turbo -

Where did the flywheel end up?

I got brand new bolts, with that loctite that never dries. But i havent put it in yet. So no loctite you say?

Flywheel went nowhere, just spun around and around on the input shaft of the gearbox,
so no other damage apart from what you can see.

Yes they were new genuine toyota bolts.

Did you use Bill's method?? ie tighten down first, undo one at a time, locktite on the thread and oil on the head?? I can hardly see how you would get hydraulic lock unless you filled the whole thing with fluid, as the air inside would compress and push against the thread on the bolts, helping the tightening torque to keep the bolts locked in place.

It seems there was more to it than simply having loctite on there DX20VT... sorry but I would disagree with your mechanic as it just doesnt seem right from an engineering perspective.
