    Hey guys
was offline this weekend so I missed this thread.

The thing IS NTSC, but for stations (at least in vic) like 31, 28 and SBS, where (I think) the au/vis signal is split on two carrier wavelengths, the unit's two super mega happy robot antennaes (get Wilbo to post a pic of his two boot aerials - seriously awesome ) will pic up the visual signal. Not the audio. I used to get SBS and 31, but with severe tracking issues.

Shortly after it died in the pants.

My problem is probably different to Wilbo's in that I will get a signal from time to time, but it then bends and folds over itself twice. Very weird (your tacho graph goes __/\/-- heheheh). Sometimes a gentle tap (or a viscious ex-girlfriend bashing the hell out of it) will kick it into life.

    We're not dating anymore.

Wilbo is teh man, much praise.

just because the TV is NTSC doesn't mean that you won't get a signal, it's all still UHF, VHF whatever the signal stays the same world wide... It'll generally just mean that you won't get the colour... NTSC TV's wil generally display PAL signals in black and white as seen in that picture...

would have to feed into the control box somehow? and at what stage?

And, you would need a still need a video source to feed to the device... but cheap DVD players are everywhere these days.

Yep, I haven't touched it at all...but orestes is right, the general info is the same. The colour info is different and the frame rate, and also the pic is too wide for the screen...

To be honest fixing it isn't the highest on the list of things...it would be cool tho

I'll try and get around to posting pics of the whole system (the stuff in the boot!)...I'm also doing some tracing so that I can integrate into the system!

    Cheers

    Hmm very cool.

I have the same prob, can only get SBS to work.

But will this convertor fit in between the aerial and the monitor, or is the tv also NTSC?

Or am i meant to fiddle with it spliced in between the unit in the boot and the tv?

I thought I saw some detailed instructions on the ALSC site about signal converters. Not sure how relevant it was. And it was about two years ago. FWIW

That is unbelievably awesome. I want.

that box just converts a PAL video signal (not an RF signal) to an NTSC - so you would have to:
-locate the video output of the tuner
-splice in at that point with some kind of solid state switcher
so it would be buried inside the big box in the boot - not an easy task.

so to answer your question: no, somewhere inside the unit
