It's not a bad unit, same basic architecture as the later e6 series with a few less outputs.

It doesn't have an internal reluctor adapter for the ignition, so you'll need to fabricate something up. Jaycar sell a hall effect sensor which works really well, you just need to build a chopper wheel.

They use stepper motor idle control, you can either run an external idle motor, or fit a V6 Commodore throttle body which have a stepper motor built in.

im in the same boat, im thinking about going with a microtech lt10s, but theres at cheap autronic v1.94 on ebay atm too, i hate not having any money

EDIT: also ive seen the e6s on there too, not sure if its worth it at that price because youd have to send it in for a couple of hundred bucks and get it mapped from the 6cyl to something like an fj20 (which is how im going to try to get spark) in the end you could have a new one for just slightly over the second hand price

microtech LT10s has heaps more flexibility than the Haltech in my opinion... and they just run better. I've heard of too many problem stories with haltechs to want to try one for myself.

An Autronic is a good thing, but be wary that the SMC is not quite as flexible as the SM4 in terms of trigger input signals and the like.

Id take an Haltech E8 over a SMC any day of the week.

I actaully sold my SMC for an E8, dont reckon i'd ever wan an Autronic ECU again.

power to the tuner though, ive seen rotaries and the likes putting out huge horsies on shithouse wolf 3d v3's just cos the tuner knows what he's doing

I know of cars (my own included) which have run for years as a daily driver using Haltechs without a problem.

you do not need to send haltechs back to the factory to be re-configured for a different setup. so you can exclude those couple of hundred $$$'s from the equation

ive got a haltech e6k on my 4agte and its sweet! its a daily driver and starts first kick regaurdless if its first thing on a freezing morning or when the cars nice and hot. fuel economy was good when i was running lower boost levels (8psi) and is still acceptable now. its got plenty of outputs for a 4cyl (think ive still got like 4 left) and does everything else most other computers do. biggest problem is they take a while to tune as the software is a bit old school. still for the moment im very happy with mine.

spoke to haltech. e6s is 10 years old now and they dont support the parts for it anymore. he said there worth $70. e6k is the go i think. plenty of good tuners for these in adelaide that will back there work.

if you have the tuners, and you have the confidence of having talked to your tuner FIRST to know that you are planning to buy will be his preference - then go for it.

    My tuner hates the things.

my tuner doesent partiucaularly like tuning my e6k either, mostly i think because of its old style software. im sure he would much rather i had a motec, but the haltech does the job, and from what ive seen so far once its tuned it does it fairly well. But like Witzl said talk to your tuner first.
