Default W-50 Rebuild kits - Now resolved!

    Hi Team,

I'm looking to rebuild my spare W50 to prepare it for duty in my 18RGEU powered Corona I am building.

My primary motivation for making this thread is that I want to know your experiences with kits and suppliers.

I'm looking buying through the aptly named Ring and Pinion, Transmission and Transfer Case Parts - Drivetrain.com. Mainly because they're the first people I came across. Thanks google.

The kit for the W50 - Toyota W Series manual transmission rebuild Kits Celica, Corona, Crown, Mark II, Supra . - Drivetrain.com Doesn't seem too badly priced, they ship internationally and I can get a kit complete with new synchros.

If anyone knows of a good local (as in, somewhere down under) supplier, or a particularly good brand of kit i'm keen to hear abour it!

PPG do a lovely gearset for the W50 and you still get some change from 10k

It's not local but I got a kit through these guys: Cobra Transmissions in the US W50 : Automatic, Standard Transmission and Transfer Case Rebuild Kits, Cobra Transmission Parts 1-800-293-1848, Cobra Transmission

You can get a kit landed for about $180 I think. Yet to rebuild mine

Thanks bud, I've sent them an inquiry but it appears as though they have recently stopped carrying W50 kits, so unless I snag some leftover stock then I think i'm still stuck!!

No reponse from Drivetrain.com for over a week.
Cobra transmissions were quick to write back, but no longer carry the kit.

    Looks like i'm boned.

Well it seems i've had a win.

Australian Transmission Componenets - Based in Wagga, Online Catalogue so you can find the correct kit for your application yourself, Good to deal with. A two minute phone call to find their distributor in Adelaide and make sure that the kit for the W-50 is still available is all it took.
Australian Transmission Components - Gearbox Parts and Sales - Tremec, Aisin, Richmond, Morse Tec

Turns out the Adelaide distributor is only 5 minute down the road from work...
Precision Driveline | Kaaz Lsd | Differentials | Gearbox

$240 at trade and they'll match the synchros up for me when I've got it apart.

I can't vouch for their work but they have been brilliant to talk to on the phone, very knowledgeable.
