The cops were hanging around a bit... not getting too involved it seemed... there was only i think 2 or 3 cars
Then after the burnouts, they kinda closed off the road n barely let anyone out
When backup arrived (in the form of like a dozen more officers), they opened a channel out via license/breath/car checks.

I can kinda see where they're coming from.. as in.. give us some room.. if we do stupid shit, then crack down.
But seriously, 3 ppl doing a burnout from like 700 odd cars?
A cpl of rowdy commowhore drivers amongst about 2000 people?
They should have a minimum 2% of ppl fooling around or something before they go crazy with the law enforcement.

Spose they were there to stop escalation of "hooning'

still hard to justify issuing work orders on cars that have less wrong with them than most aussie built vehicles.

the 'hoon' title should only really apply to commodore drivers with mullets. cos thats all hoons are

Yeah too many people doing burnouts got a bit out of hand... me and my bro got out at 10:30pm'ish just before they blocked up the exits.

man.. it was shaping up to be a huge event..
but then got shut down by the 5-0 ...

I wonder if the Ignition DVD people actually got any decent footage?..
have to keep an eye on the newsagents over the next couple of months.

    My car got checked over.
I had permits for my mods - which include pod filter, sports pedals and monster tacho.. which is all for my old engine
they didn't say anything about the engine swap with massif turbo and intercooler hanging down..
I got let out without a sticker, much to the cries of onlookers.. hahaha

I took heaps of pictures.. but still i don't think I got to see all the cars there..
    must have been 800 - 900 i reckon..

Yeah, unfortunately this is the kind of thing that puts me off going to these types of gatherings. Justified or not (the Police reaction), I just don't like the risk associated in terms of getting stickered (and spending all night in traffic).

Just curious, did the organisers have a particular area "closed-off" for the event (i.e. with permission from anyone) or was it just a case of hundreds of cars gathering in the public car parks? If the later, it tends to agitate the 5-0, etc.

Heh..i guess it takes a enthusiast to respect the true power of PVC. the cops would be like...ooo...white piping. okay. Pass.

Funny, cos i've seen a ae92 GZE with PVC piping, that i thought was just a joke. Now i'm not so sure....

Can someone explain to me how a little bit of oil in the engine bay is a safety hazard ?

It could spontaneously combust, thus setting your car on fire. *touch wood*

...similarly with the battery being secured. if it's not, it could touch metal (think of an accident), causing big sparks, igniting the oil/broken fuel lines etc.

I generally have no issues taking my car over the pits. It just reassures me that DPI thinks my car is safe(er).

Took the MRS over last week to get it rego'ed, and the guy picked up on a very loose suspension arm bolt. Would not have been pretty to see that come off.

...hopefully u've got the stock parts on hand? Wish you good luck.

well you see given that one day when you're crossing the nullarbor there may be the pretense where your soarer falls victim to the same problem associated with many soarers that have had engine conversions that cross the nullarbor.. the issue of overheating coupled with bad ventilation results in the urgent need to take a hold of the nearest hammer and screwdriver and create designated 'speed holes' to allow better airflow and cooling over the said engine conversion. now given this scenario coupled with the 0.01% likelihood that it is going to be raining excessively on the nullarbor during your crossing, there is the potential hazard that the engine bay may be flooded with rainwater. whilst this may not be such a problem in the immediate short-term, and although it can aid the cooling effect on the engine conversion, the problem lies with the said flood rainwater diluting the concentrated oil residues inside the engine bay and resulting in chemical runoff onto the tarmac which in turn creates a hazard for other road traffic.

    Possible outcome scenarios -

    - the diluted oil mixture strewn all across the eyre highway coupled with the horrible handling and braking of a Mack truck will be an accident hazard that will cause significant failure in the handling and braking systems of the truck. It may result in the said truck slipping and sliding out of control for several hundred kilometres only to upturn and flip at the WA/SA border, spilling its load of fruit and vegetables over onto the WA side, thus resulting in an illegal importation of fruits and vegies into WA without passing quarantine first. There is also a similar scenario on the other side of the state whereby an out of control big rig may plow off course and punch a hole in the rabbit-proof/cane toad proof fence and allow the pestillence to wander over into SA.

    - the diluted oil mixture strewn all across the eyre highway may be flicked upwards by the tyres of following cars and given the fact that none of these cars are Soarers, there is no need for speed holes, thus they will have dry intact engine bays and the oil residue will end up settling inside their engine bays. Under the proviso this is what occurs, there is the imminent danger that once these following cars attend a cruise, they may summarily be defected for engine oil residue in their engine bays. Licky Sticky Schmicky!

    - the diluted oil mixture is absorbed onto the feet of crossing wildlife such as Kangaroos. Kangaroos that once had superior traction with their feet on bitumen, now suddenly have no traction on an otherwise slippery surface. Once again, Mack truck that is out of control on slippery surface cannot stop in time, and Kangaroo with slippery feet cannot jump off the road in time to avoid imminent roadkill status. Alternatively, said Kangaroos also have a tendancy to also re-bend chassis rails in Soarers upon impact. However Kangaroo entrails and the blood of other roadkill make a positive refreshing improvement over spearmint coloured paintjobs. However this in itself is another reason for a yellow sticker as there is the potential danger of wildlife spraining their eyes whilst catching a glimpse of such Soarers in their native habitat.

As you can see there are many things for the police to consider when issuing yellow stickers. I believe you can now see the logic involved in their thought processes.
