when were the fuel filters last changed? (am assuming you are running a coarse filter upstream of the facet pump.

see if the pickup filter is clogged (if there is one)? that would be a good way to have your last fuel pump die quickly too

Jeebus christ! The new fuel pump was the problem the thing has carked it.

We got both pumps out of the car and tested them using tins of fuel and a spare battery... the old pump works perfectly fine, and the new pump is fubared!

Anyway, the old pump is back in the car and everything is working as it should be. The only thing we can put it down to in the first place was a bad earth on the first pump, as it had 12.4 volts to it but wasnt working... but the pump is fine.

Thanks for your help guys, hopefully I wont get anymore troubles!!

    Okay... more problems..
Every so often the thing will stop getting enough fuel up to the filter. Its ok idling, but when you get higher revs, the thing cant keep up.

I think I have found the problem, a leak in the rubber fuel hose between the steel fuel line and the fuel filter. Upon closer inspection, the whole end where its clamped onto the steel line has been chewed away and leaking fuel. Mind you this is a new hose that i replaced when swapping around pumps.

Anyway I replaced it last night and took it for a drive, all good. Went to drive it this morning and thought I will check it again, but it didnt seem to want to get enough fuel up to the filter and sure enough, the hose i replaced is leaking fuel again!

    This is why:

There is a "ridge" in the steel pipe, almost like a flare on a brake line but further back. Everytime I seem to push a rubber hose over it and clamp it down it splits in some way and leaks fuel. So it would seem the pipe is designed for something else to go there and not a rubber hose given that nut that is there. Aside from the obvious of hacksawing that bit of pipe off and putting the hose on (mean while getting fuel everywhere), is there anything else I can do? Its really pissing me off, both my cars are playing up and i need to be able to get to work tomorrow

Do i even need to reflare it? Its a rubber hose going onto it... i think i'll just cut it off... but i'll have to stop the fuel getting through to there first

Will the nut come off too after the flare is gone?
If it cant then i dont think there is much steel line for the rubber hose to go onto and if it was me i would be re-flaring the line, being fuel and all

But if that bolts comes off too and i could get a good wad of rubber hose on it......

Nah the nut wont come off without removing the flare, which is annoying as I cant get quite enough rubber hose over it to clamp it down on that side of the ridge
Maybe i need to bend the line and get the nut down the line more so i have more room

buy those barbed air fittings for compressors etc.

screw nut to it - hose to barb.

all ya gotta do is find 1 at the hardware / parts store that seems right.

find a bolt that fits ur car nut ... and take it to match threads.

I think you missunderstood what i was trying to say
Cut off flare, remove bolt, re-flare the end, push on hose

If you can find a screw in barb that too would be a good fix

new hose is more flexxy, and WD-40ing the flare will help it slide on.

so buy some new hose to fit, and you can buy it in any length you want.

also, dont skimp, buy new hose clamps, and maybe clamp both sides of the flare?

the ridge you talk about is not to stop the rubber hose coming off. it's for when you use the nut that is currently not being used. the adapter ta022 put up is the best solution.

my carr is exactly the same. don't cut the pipe off.

try the good old holden recall, try using two clamps (efi clamps if you can get them) and clamp up the hose with both. worked for holdens and there trans oil.
