    im with mullet and rex.

    cheap coil overs are stupid.
    1: quality
2: wtf do you need coil overs for on the street? when for the same $$ you can get a better quality spring/shock package from koni/trd/eibach etc etc

dont fall for the magpie effect and buy shiney coz its phat.
buy quality. and theres nothing quality about d2.

at least with monroes and cut springs the strut isnt likely to snap, though it will still handle arse!

suspension is like tyres, DONT skimp..... unless your into posing rather than driving
I DONT WORK FOR TOYOTA ANYMORE
    please, no more PMs!

I didn't notice this thread earlier, but just making a comment.

Looking at the pictures from NS.com, the upper photo looks like the top hub mounting bolt was loose. Notice the shiny aluminium around the fractured section? There are no signs of chattering on any of the other photos.

Assuming they are both off the same car, I'm guessing that one strut failed and the other was destroyed as a consequence. On aluminium suspension components, maintenance is critical.

That suspension failed because it was poorly maintained, not poorly designed.

actually ben the suspension in that S14 was under 10,000 miles old im told...as the former owner of the car resides on ziptied.com (american/japanese/global drifting forum)

IMO the only coilovers I would be purchasing from the budget line are HSD's, I have now had them in 3 cars and ill never look back, they perform really well for a setup available for under $2000.

It doesn't matter how old they were, I'm just working from the photos, but it looks like the upper bolt was fretting before it failed, it's clearly worked its way through the anodising and into the soft aluminium beneath. Loose bolts + curb hopping (drifting) = breakage, the damage wouldn't have taken long to happen and the driver should have been able to feel it well before it collapsed.

for 2K i would rather a pair of koni yellows and wound spring
Its not about the adjustability, how many of you have access to proper corner weighting gear? or the durability but the quality of the valving and oil inside,
Has anyone had them dynoed to see if they actual perform well?

I havent put them on a shock dyno but I have used them in my racecar...the valving suited my needs perfectly and I didnt break them even with various ripple strip jumps

in my opinion that counts for something

There are dyno charts out there somewhere, weather they perform well really depends on the application doesn't it?
