u need the top one wired for the auto to change gears properly
the 3 wire one is for the speedo

signal to vdo speedo
As my 1JZ corolla conversion nears completion, I need to wire up the A340 auto gearbox to suit.
I am fitting a VDO electronic speedometer to the dash, as the A340 box doesn't use a cable drive for the speedo. Problem I have is that there are two speed sensors on the extension housing of the box, one is a magnetic reluctor type (pictured first below), the other is a digital sensor driven from a conventional gear (pictured second)
Which of these should I use? Is either one better than the other? The VDO gauge can accept either signal.
Cheers
Phil

Use the three wire one... or mix'n'match bits from extension housings of other autos to make your original speedo work.
