    Default 18 RC from RA28 to RA40

    Hi all,
I was just wondering is there any difference in an 18 rc engine from an RA 28 7/77 to an 18rc from RA 40 6/80. I have a RA40 I need to use as a runner and it has a very tired engine. I have a RA28 with an 18rc in good condition but only good for parts. The engine looks identical to the RA 40's. I don't need specs just if anyone could see any problems with the swap.

I dont think you will find any problems and if there are a couple you should be able to overcome them very easy as the motors are identicle apart from some addded pollution crap.
    Cheers

will bolt in - literally - gearbox and all.

remove/disable the emissions shit while the engine is out and make it look stock (e.g. snipped hoses are bad)

you'll need to notify DoT of the change in engine number - browse their website for method to do this/

So how do I disable the emissions control. I had a look last night and there is a maze of hoses in there, if I can disable it is it possible to run a different carb , I have a spare 32/28 webber, is it possible to fit this and still run the air/con.

I would start with disconecting the air pump and removing it for a start if it has one.
next is the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) system, just undo it and block it off.
There are also a few limiters so that the vacuum advance does not work until the engine is up to running temp, just bypass them.
    Cheers
