i think 7 or 7:30 scruitineering finishes... you dont want to get there too late.

try and get outta work abit early, or just prepare everything you need the day before and take your helmet and long clothes to work with you...

    Nathan, 22.

I'll probably leave a little before peak hour to avoid the bulk of the problems.

Question Re: Whoop Ass Wednesday - 15 Feb 06

OK, I'll do the balancing act between leaving early and not getting caught in the traffic.

Does anyone know the cost for people who want to come spectate?

Know if there's anyone who takes video or anything (official/unofficial)? Or would you have to take your own to get a clip of the run?

Just a tip for those that havent raced before.
    1. if your racing, dont park in the car park ....the competitors entry is the first turnoff once you have come up the hill from the turnoff.

    2. The wednesday we will be racing WILL NOT have speedway practice *HURRAH* (its funny watching cars run but all you car hear is methanol guzzling small block chevs screaming behind you. Aaaaah the methanol fumes *sniffs* ..whoops
So this means scruitineering SHOULD be in the scruitineering bays directly to your left once you have paid and entered the pits.
If no one is there then that means scruitineering has moved down LANE side. (down at the far end of the pits closest to where you line up with everyong to race.)

    3. Obviously your car will be scruitineered so make sure every thing is in order, this means your brakes, your engine bay and steering. (They dont like things like unsecured batteries and overflow bottles.)

    4. take all loose crap, rubbish, books, tools and general crap out of the car prior to comming. its for general safety but also people will be looking in your car and you dont want them to think your a bum with a stolen supra jk . (if you want a bad example of someone who does this have a look at Tristan with the WTF Auto MR2 LOL he has all kinds of crap in his car.

    5. Make sure you have at least a Quater of a tank of fuel when you come down. There are pros and cons to running minimal fuel, and also running a full tank.
The higher powered supras a great way to get some extra weight/traction in the ass end is to fill up before comming ...but for the lower HP supras this just means a higher E.T and lower MPH as traction generally isnt a issue. With my stereo out of the car i NEED to run near on a full tank or i just wont get traction.

    6. PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE your launches before you come. I had my supra for near on 2 years before i took it down, and realised i had the car this whole time and still didnt know how to launch properly on the night!... very annoying. Doesn't matter if your auto or manual you need to be comfortable with launching the car CONSISTANTLY of the start line because its the most important part of the race (i believe).

7.Dont worry about how fast you need to change gears down the track
Dont worry about when you need to change gears in the rev range, that all comes naturally in the heat of the moment.
Just worry about getting that launch perfect.
Auto boys should learn how high they need to stall and when to stall in relation to the christmas tree in order to leave on green, if thats important to them.

    8. Leaving on the green light IS NOT IMPORTANT.
ALOT of people dont know this but the 'Timer' does not start counting when the christmas lights go green. And it doesnt matter if your opponent gets to the end of the track before you it doesnt mean he wins as long as your E.T is lower.
You can literly sit on the start line as long as you want once the lights have turned green, and still win the race at the end as long as your e.t was lower.
What this means is, it gives you a extra chance to be ready to go even when the lights are green. This is really good for me because my supra is so difficult to launch, i dont want to worry about leaving on the lights, having the car ready to launch on green just makes it more difficult for me. So i usually prepare the car to launch once the light it green. Its pretty funny to the crowd but if it means your leaving the line when YOU'RE ready then thats all that counts.
I think this is one of the most valuable things to know when racing at whoopass wednesdays.

    9. if you cant get your best time for the night within 10 passes i would call it a night and retire your poor car. i think some people can get their personal best withine one or two passes and then just go home, but if your expecting a certain time and cant get it within 10 passes, something is generally wrong, you or the car. so just call it a night and save and further problems.

    10. If your bringing a friend, they are allowed a 'Pitcrew Pass' which is only issued if asked for... basically this allows you to enter the staging lanes when your friends car is staging/racing. This is good to know if you want to get some good filming done nice and close.
basically what you have to do is, when the driver gets there band put on, you ask if you could have a pit crew pass, you need to supply I.D and reference which car you came with, then you get a band too, which you show to officials near the booth at the bottom of the bridge to let you out onto the track area.

thats about it i had no idea this post would be this long. hope some of you learn something valuable from it.

    Cheers.

Thanks Todd.. a few good points to take on board..

but you forgot another important one..

    HAVE FUN!!

Don't worry if you don't launch right or you aren't running 11's down the track... most of us are there to have fun and to test out different aspects of the car in a controlled, non-cop environment...
If you run some good times in the process - hats off to ya!

sounds like we'll have a good turnout - I'll give the plex a call about booking a lane and let ya's know what they say..

    Cheers

Haha, learning to launch is a good one. I'd had my car on the road less than a week by the time I went to the drags for the first time, and my 60ft times sucked
