Im doing a 2jzge swap into my ma61. I chose it over the 1uz for the one reason that I compete with the car in my local car club and the 1uz would put me in a higher class than the 2jzge.
The 2jzge is also very hard to get performance parts like cams etc unless you go for the VVTi version. The non VVTI 2jzge uses different cam to the 2jzgte.

Im happy with my choice but without the class limitations the 1uz would have been a better choice simply for the extra cubes.

The 2jzge non VVTi is 165kw at the flywheel, people have gotten 148kw at the wheels without cracking the engine open, (ECU, extractors and CAI).

I was looking at transplanting a m60b40 4l (out of the early 90's 540i and 740i) V8 into my e30 but when quoted $3500 for a bare long block I started expanding the search for moe options. The BMW v8 also has hydraulic lifters so not as good for a high rpm build either. Which led me to the 1uz. Admittently it would be nice to keep it in the bmw family but it is hard to argue with the potential of the 1uz. They weigh substantially less than cast iron block straight 6 (177kg vs 199.5kg) that came in the 323-325i and being shorter as well potentially improve the handling dynamics and turn in response. And they cost a lot less than any BMW option.

Use one of the new 1VD-FTV from the new troopy Landcruisers

4.5L Common Rail, Direct Injection, Turbo Diesel V8 with variable vane turbo, graphite steel block, alloy heads, hydraulic lash adjusters, chain driver valvetrain.

I drove one at work...Stupid torque. Something like 450-500Nm from 1700rpm through to redline.

Or wait for the 200 Series (?) Cruisers with a twin turbs version.

Can't wait for a drive in the new petty V8's once they come out.

1uz might be a tight fit

i just did a vvti 1jz into an e30 workshop said its not to hard a job but not too easy

it looks good in there and power wise would shit on a 1uz

i think 1uzs are overated in std form when talking about good power

this e30 had afew mods on the firewall thou depending which side brake booster is on

this was moved from one side to the other and then a big hole also cut to get it to sit back into the firewall

not 100% sure but the aussie e30s had booster on one side and the european ones on the other

speedo is easy cause it runs of diff

i managed to get tacho to work

temp gauge was not accurate so i fittin my temp gauge fan controller unit and sovled thermo fan operation aswell

the exhaust seemed tight and fiddly

but at end of day prob same as any weird conversion

the BMW V8 thread on PF seemed to suggest that the bimmer V8s were flater on torque curves to make them a more user-friendly powerplant than say the merc V8s.

mind you, 100Nm per litre is a shitload of torque in anyone's books!
