since you guys knows a lot about the mark IIs i have another question.

i upgraded my gearbox once before from W40-W50, and then i discovered that my old gear crossmember was totally unlike the newer crossmember on newer yotas in general, and i had to weld another bracket for the crossmember to fit the new gearbox. my RX12 have the screw holes for the crossmember located pretty far forward, and when i put in the w50 its many cm from the holes in the floors to the actual crossmembe. this wasnt much of a problem with the w50 since it doesnt weigh much, but with the supra box, how am i gonna solve this problem?

i would guess at least mx10 would have the holes in the floor for the crossmember far forwar too, maybe also on mx13. so if u have had same problem as me, i would like to know how u resolved this, or if its possible mix crossmember from other year mx's or cressidas or something like that?

thanks for all ur help guys, definitly lot of rep you

you should've been able to use the same crossmember for all those gearboxes. they all use the same rubber mount and position, they're all the same length, and the W55/57/58 will be a bit lighter cuz it's alloy case.

i'm guessing your crossmember bolts into the same place as mine, are the bolt holes next to the chassis rails? have you got a camera? is your crossmember really long, or about the same width as the bellhousing? i'm asking this cuz the later mk2's i had have a different crossmember to the one i have now. i'm not sure if it's because it's an earlier model, or whether it's because it was auto. i'll get some pics of mine which might help.

    Hi again

my original crossmember was probably as wide as the box, and not long enough for the w50, my 40 had some kinda weird bracket for the rubber mounting on the gearbox, wich i never seen on any other gearboxes before. thats why i made a new one, and this one is even longer than the old one and reach almost all the way to the back of the w50box.

i dont relly remember where the mountig holes for the chassis is loaced now, but probably as where u say.

i can try take some pics of this, but its snowing a lot here and kinda hard to get under the car.

should all the gearboxes be approx the same length, including autos, and the crossmember will fitt all the boxes?

since mine is a bit messed up, does anyone have a spare crossmember i can use?

the W series manual boxes will all bolt on the same. the auto's are different though. usually the auto's require a different tailshaft, cuz they're usually a bit longer.

i don't know what you mean about the rubber mount, i've only ever seen the one kind on the manuals. i've never looked at an auto crossmember or mount, my coupe was an auto but it had been converted to manual very poorly, the gearbox was being held up by a bit of rope around a ratchet under the console

I will have a look on this one as the MX 10 spare parts car is auto. The GX 10 was originally auto but it now has a T50 bolted to the 1G so this may be a little different. The MX 22 was originally a 2M but was converted to 18R for economy issues by a previous owner(which I do know) and it was originally running a W 40 but was converted to W 50 and by the look of the g/box crossmember was not altered.
The auto rubber mount is the same as the W series so there should be no probs with that.
Tailshaft length between auto and manual should be the same but I will check this out sometime this week.
The only W series box that did run a different style g/box mount was in the 72-73 RT 81 Corona which actually bolted to each side of the extension housing but I do recall a few years ago I wrecked a 72 MX 10 which had this mount also cause I actually used this gear box behind a RT 40 Corona 1600S sedan.
    Cheers Brett.

    Hi again

Yes my w40 was like that weird thing it mounts to each side if the gearbox, but the one i made myself on the w50 is more like a V going onto the rubbers almost in the back of the gearbox, if u know what i mean?

hmm i hope the thailshaft isnt shorter on auto, im thinking more and more about putting an auto in. (yes yes, i know peeps thinks its stupid, but im just too lazy to use that stick all the time).

any of you guys have a picture of the console and the autoshift thingy from inside the car? i never seen this before so im kinda curious on what it looks like in theese oldies. would i be able to use the console and auto shifter from for example mx10 on a newer 4 speed auto?

any of u happen to have a gearbox crossmember both for manual and auto ur not using? will the original crossmember fit w55 and up without any mods to it, or only w40-50?

using a rope as a crossmember sounds kinda scary, i even think its scary using the crossmember i made myself from steel, somethimes im just waiting for the box to fall out and sitt there in the middle of the highway, and im looking in the mirror to see it get crushed by an 18 wheeler

this is the only kind of mount i've ever seen on W40's and W50'S in my Mark 2's, or my other corona, or any corona actually.

position B is where my crossmember bolts on. i'm not sure if this is unique to the auto models. position A is where is roughly where the other(later) manual mk 2's bolted on.

The engine is physically longer, the front of the engine will probably sit close to in the same place and the balance to the rear. The mounts are located pretty much in the middle of the engine, and the 7m will have 2 extra holes on one side (can't remember which, stitt will know) as some mounts sit opposite each other and others are offset. The opposing ones are when fitting to MS series crowns etc, may or may not be relavent to check any mounts it comes with before wekding mounts to chassis as to their location (opposite or offset)

Just had a thought(yes it did hurt )if you are thinking of going auto then the auto box from the Supra will be a 4spd auto. This is where it will get more complicated as the 4spd auto is alot longer than the 3spd auto and manual boxes.

    Hi again

thanks for the picture joe, my crossmember is completely diffrent, instead of going out to the side like that, mine goes forward towards the engine, maybe like 20-30cm. my w50 have that same rubber mount V shape thingy, but my w40 had some diffrent mount.

i really should get my hands on a crossmember like that, and weld the brackets on to the frame like in that pic, looks a lot safer and better than my crossmember mounting option.

Thanks for the info about the 4spd auto is longer, makes me wonder if i just should get a M bellhousing for my w50 and keep that for now.

Then i need a 7m-ge flywheel, anyone know if any of the older M engines uses the same flywheel? 5m or something?

Thanks club, hmm yes i will definitly test fit the engine and look at the mounts position before i start weld anything, best to get it right the first time.

PM wilbo666 about flywheels - he seems to have an eidetic memory regarding M-series flywheels and clutches.

Thanks for the tip, PM is sendt and hopefully he have an answer for me.

Anyone have an idea if the original mark II radiator will give enough cooling for the 7m-ge? i think its a pretty big radiator, but i dunno how big the one for the 7m-ge really is, maybe it will work if i use a electric/thermo fan, or will it be too small no matter what?

if yours is the same as mine was, then probly not. Try it first, and if you can't keep the engine cool with it, then try something else. i used a petrol FJ40 landcruiser radiator. it takes a little bit of modification to fit but will definately do the job! i dunno if you'd be able to get one of them though?

Im not sure how it is to get a hold of landcruiser radiator here, but i assume its simular to hilux, and should be able to find that.

seems like the 7m-ge seller keeps avoiding my questions abou the engines health and what exactly comes with the engine (ecu etc), so im wondering about importing a 7m-ge or 1g of some short myself instead.

anyone knows any exporters that has a good reputation and ships worldwide? (im not in australia) been searching google for jdm engines, but many of the stores looks rather weird, and they dont reply to emails, so i dont think thats a good sign.
