as a guess, he happens to have one available/cheap?

Other than that I have no idea about the answer to this question.

Exactly, I have a couple of 5M cranks and my 2M crank is not so good. And i have a set of new pistons for 2M.
The 5M pistons and rods are about 12-15g heavier than the 2M rods and pistons.

One thing though, I do remember that there is something different about the number 1 main bearing - I think it's wider and need to get it turned down?

It has been a while since I played with these things.

Considered trying to find a 7M crank? You need to do a little more machining to the front of the crank to take the chain drive gear (rather than the cambelt drive).

The no1 main bearing is only wider 84<? I have both 83,84 and 85 cranks (from 5M-E), i noticed that i bearing cap was wider on '85(even on my '84 5M-GE).

Ya, 5/6/7MGE definately have wider number 1 main bearing journal. My recall on the 5ME was a bit hazy - the only one I had seemed to have the wider journal but then others have told me it wasn't wider so I figured there had to be two types.

Personally I would do a 7M crank, 5MGE pistons and a 41013 head (with a lot of work to the exhaust ports). Maybe source an M-D manifold and fit a couple of Weber downdrafts?

Should be plenty of 7M cranks in NZ.
