Hmmm even more food for thought, it's not that I'm after a huge amount of power out of it but just enough to compensate for the weight of the CelicaXX (supra woteva). 'Good f'n luck ' I hear you chorus lols.

Maybe a bit of save my pennies and start shopping round for some of the bitties you guys have mentioned.
I have mucked around a bit with 3TGTEU's but kind of hit the wall after a few very small mods (7mgte ct26 with lowered boost, fmic) the stock driveline of the old t18 just could no take any more lol.

My position at the present time is that I'm well aware of how much you need to spend to create a beast NA motor, after years of fooling round with different motors, both pushrod and twinkies. That don't make an expert though (obviously harhar!)

I don't rely on the car as a driver, it's purely a toy for me so in that respect I can afford to take my time with it.

I guess I have exactly what I asked for in this thread though and want to thank everybody for taking the time to chuck their 'two bob' down. still interested in what people might want to share on this topic. Would be good to flog it until everybody gets bored of it....

I suggest a BEAMS 3SGE rather than tweaking a 1GGE - 210 hp out of the box with a factory ECU and will probably be cheaper than working your 1GGE.
A very good suggestion, has anybody seen one of these around for sale at a price close to a 1GGTEU or a 1j/1j for that matter. Last time I looked these were rare as the rocking horse shit and priced in around the $4000 mark...

So far I have decided to keep to the NA plan, some mild cam work, head work to aid compression and maybe a port and polish ITB's are also the go...

So very true... does not seem to be many 1GGTEU's around either. There was a very very strong 1GGTEU for sale somewhere on these forums and from memory it was around the $4000 mark but well worth it. A beast of a motor...

Nar for a 1GGZEU, check the HP and torque figures out compared to a NA 1G... more torque but not much more HP... 1GGTEU's are the way to go for teh massif powers

I have an N/A 1G in my soarer, and for what it is its not that bad... it's underpinnings are the same as an MA61, and it weighs about the same... for a car that weighs a touch under 1300kg's I really don't think it's all that bad. I would think with a manual box, and a slightly worked engine it would be a fair amount of fun. 1G's rev hard, and redline fairly highly, i'd reckon getting one to rev out to 9 or 10k rpm wouldn't be unachievable in all honesty the engine doesn't really get enough credit. I understand why, 1G-GZE's, and 1G-GTE's are cheap in comparison to the amount of money you would spend putting into a 1G-GE, it's a bit like the 4A-C, vs 4A-GE argument, but then again that's not a good analogy because the 1G-GE is a lot better engine then the 4A-C.

I'd personally like to see someone go nuts on a 1G, but the other option is if you want the N/A feel with a bit more grunt go supercharged with a 1G-GZE the biggest issue there in is how you're going to pipe your intercooler

the reason why GZE's are so under rated is because as stock they come without an intercooler , it's also a bitch to pipe one... there would be plenty of gain if someone were to go to town on a GZE but there again you also need custom pulleys made.

Yep, don't get me wrong, I have given a lot of thought to maybe slapping on a SC from a 1GGZE... lots of people went p00 p00 at the idea but I figure that the higher compression in the NA motor coupled with a good tune from aftermarket ecu and low to medium boost with an intercooler and you could have some fun...

Oh yeah, the NA 1G intake makes plumbing an intercooler a lot easier when bolted to a 1GGZEU, so no doubt the addition of a SC would be just as cool to a 1GGEU

The biggest plus of using the 1GGEU as a base is that it cost so little to buy. You hear people saying they are shite and that you can score one for a case of beer. Reality is that I scored mine for $400 in very good nick with all stuff ready to go. Prices get quoted at $750 for 1GGTEU, jeez if i could get a good condition 1GGTEU for that price I would but alas anything in that price range would require much work to bring up to standard.

yeah that's definitely the way around it... I'm not sure on the 1G-GEU with the SC attached, but the 1G manifold definitely simplifies things i've had thoughts of going GZE in my soarer, and that's pretty much what it came down to, to simplify plumbing an intercooler.

    Go the 1G!!

I know exactly how you feel about the 1G, Ive got one factory in my 85 celica XX, manual w55 box... Ive also had it for about a year. Id love to stick with the NA, but it all comes down to displacement, its just too small N/a for the type of cars we run.. Its such a great engine though, it sounds great, it revs very hard too. Im going to eventually go 1GGZE, because it will be a cheap swap for me, and also transfer the cams from GEU to GZE, as they are more effective higher up in the revs than the GZE cams..

There is a kit to bore the GEU out to 2.4 litres, which IMO would make it one heck of a great engine.. HKS make the crank, unfortunatly its all in Japan, the last HKS crank I saw went for 5-600 so Im guessing they are quite rare.. It would be expensive.. But so very worth it in my humble opinion.

Come on webers for the win, or grab some 40mm solex's, you can buy a pair for $150, that's 3 with a spare for $300.

get an adapert plate made up and good set of extractors.

I might not go overly hard (it will be a kick in the pants from stock) but it will sound amazing. just don't expect fuel economy to be all that great.

Hey Andy, was kinda hoping you might have some input into this...

This stroker kit sounds farkin nuts, as does the HKS cam. Can you tell me any more about this gear? Where I might look to source it? Or any other resouces on IGGEU's or the XX?

Jordan, ummm I have toyed with the idea of going carb on this. If you can get me a three 40mm solex's jetted and ready to rock at the price you are talking about then I will buy em if for no other reason than to sell em on. Last pair of reconned solex's I fitted to a 3tc cost me $500+

Webers would be cool and probably easier for me to tune and work on myself though. I think however that if you look at people who work carb engines, they usually end up moving to EFI and a megasquirt or similar. My experience says that this is also much more fuel efficient, bit more power too. No wicked induction noise though

For now I will stick to ITB's have seen some Australian made ones that look the business and although they are a little exy. they may be a better alternative to scoring some Neesan ones of jap yahoo.

88MKIII, I'm keen on the extractors, do you know if they would match the outlets on the 1GGEU? Will pm you buddy

I want to keep this car as a NA vehicle. I'm not really after the massif powah, been there and done that with a number of different vehicles. I'm trying to work towards a nice handling car with good weight over wheels and a good poky mild street motor.

Something a little different and individual, hmmmm.

Thanks everybody for your interest and responses. Keep it going guys.

    Owwww!

Just had a quick snoop around for info on the HKS stroker kits... no way! when people said they were expensive that was an understatement. Thats just plain ludicrous....

Could not even find the price for the 1GGEU kit but if the others are anything to go by... forgedaboudeeet.

So... a plan is forming now... something to do with ITB's, mega squirt or other ecu, mild street cams, adjustable cam gears, tiny head shave to up the comp and headers...

perhaps some water or ethanol injection system too mebbe?

Question for ya andy, does ur tacho go up to 9000rpm and redline start at 8000? The gen 1 1GGE's in the 2000gt's apparently had that going on, pretty cool.

Another note, yes it's true the 1ggeu is a little small for the size of the cars we run. Still, with the XX (MkII) we are 227 kg's lighter than the MkIII.... That's two hefty blokes or one really big person!
