    Default 2T into RA23 (temporary while I rebuild 18rgu

    Hey guys,

I am just trying to suss out if I can whack my spare 2T into the Ra23 while I rebuild the 18rgu which I destroyed at willowbank today.(pics later)

I am just not sure if the TA22 crossmember will fit to an RA23? I have spare gearbox etc for the 22.

I couldn't find much about the possibilty of switching crossmembers.

There was a comment from norbie in this thread http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...22+crossmember

    Where he says
There are significant differences in the front end of an RA23... the crossmember won't fit.
So it probably isnt an option but I thought I'd throw the question out there.

I haven't pulled the 18rg out of the car yet, but there is a nice enough sized hole in the sump at the bottome of piston 4, and she is well and truely seized. So not how terminal this poor old thing is gonig to be. I am crossing fingers though!!!

Should I start a new thread on everything needed to use an 18R block for rebuilding the 18rg? I found some info in dale30's threads, but not sure if there is any other gotcha's.

You will need a TA23 crossmember for a bolt in fit.
    Also the W50 wont bolt to the 2T need a T50 + T50 gearbox X-member.
Tailshafts are the same length, but the yoke for the W50 wont suit the T50, so just grab a TA22 tailshaft.

Ahh bugger, bet its not so easy to find a ta23 crossmember

This will teach me to hold it for too long in 3rd on the track.

I have a couple of spare t50 gearboxes to mate with the 2T, so if I can find one for the right price it won't be too much of a headache.

    Thanks for the info

Why bother rebuilding the 18RGU? Think 3SGE beams engine. Rear wheel drive engine dual vvti and six speed manual box capable of a readline of 7800 rpm and makes 147kws. I have seen these halcuts as cheap as $4500 complete front cut. The engine the could be fitted with aftermarket management and further down the track fitted 8.5:1 forgies and rods and a dirty big 3040 turbo and make an easy 320rwks. Be patient and a do yourself a favour and embrace tecnology You wont regret it

Its all down to available funds

With a home loan and many other expenses I can't justify laying out that kind of money on my toy at the moment.

Don't get me wrong I'd love to be able to put an engine like that into the yellow machine. So unfortuntately its rebuild the 18rg if I can, and if I cant get the 2T into it, then off the road she goes until I can get my ta22 finished (but still only a 2T

    Damn the funds, seriously !!

your better off finding a running 18rc. people usually give them away no days.

its a bolt in swap. much easier than a 2T

    Yeah luke,

what can i say.... inexperience and getting caught up in the moment destroyed it. It was running sweet too. The last 2 weeks spend tuning etc had it going nice.

    Ah well....
