Buy a 2JZGE, keep the head, flog off the 2JZ block to some guy for a 1.5JZ, get the 2JZGE flywheel/clutch/bellhousing setup for a W58![]()
I do indeed. Many people have proven you don't need to open it up to turbocharge it either. Would be an interesting toy.
That said, the height probably would be an issue, the 2JZ is quite tall. Then there is the question of whether you'd be allowed a 3l turbo engine. Would bloody well help that big puppy spool though![]()

2JZGE block is similar to 2JZGTE?
whats the difference in compression?

the pistons.
same block AFAIK but no oil squirters.
BTW with these new laws supposably coming in, I could legally fit a 1.5jz or 2jz in my car![]()
well no oil squirters isnt necessarily a bad thing...you can maintain higher oil pressure im led to belive...
strad if you deicde to go the route of the 2JZGE head and need someone to buy the bottom end...lemme know

Hehe.. Thanks for the ideas, but it got far to intricate when it got to pulling heads off and things..
If I got a 2jz, I'd probably just get a 2jz-gte, and put that in.. Bye bye Rego, but hello time slip...
Then you still have the problem of having no dizzy to go with your ignition controller and we'd be back at the same reason you can't have a 1JZ![]()

Do a 1JZGE then.
Identical to 2JZGE, without the capacity.

Has anyone considered the fact that the 1j and 2j are absolutely massive engines? A 1g barely fits in an old celica and I would think that one of these other engine options would require a big hole in the firewall (making the engine a passenger in the front) or having the engine hanging out between the headlights
The weight would absolutely kill the handling too I would think.
Plenty of people have put 1J's in xA2x's before, and I don't think Stradlater is worried about turning at high speed.

a) I want to stay turbo.
b) Good thought about the 2jz and the ignition. If I went to that extend, I'd sort something out..
c) Cruz's correct. I couldn't give two s*its about turning... Gimme power and more power.
Dont' really even care about the firewall to be honest.
Firewall mods won't be necessary (I've seen a few 1JZ's in RA23's), but you do have to move the radiator way forward which leaves little room for a decent sized intercooler. Of greater concern with the 2JZ would be height, it's significantly taller than a 1JZ and from what I've seen the 1JZ doesn't have much headroom!

Surely the RA23 can't have less length under the bonnet than my corolla? Fortunately the front end of the corolla is more accepting of a large cooler, but there's still little room nonetheless.
You could consider dropping your crossmember a bit & running RCA's to make headroom for the 2JZ
[edit] sorry, just thought about this again, I have rack & pinion steering, not sure of the ability to lower the crossmember with steering components bolted to the body in the RA![]()
No firewall or tunnel mods here:
Cheers
