Seeing as it isn't the AFM my next vote goes to the ECU temp sender!...it is just behind the thermostat housing.

wow.. you guys have given me a pretty solid list of things to check.
I have a new distributor cap & rotor button (corroded bigtime) coming express on monday hopefully.
Will have a look at some of the other stuff today.![]()

pull your leads out at night and see if you have spark to every cylinder or even just from the coil.
What you have to do is disconnect the wire, aim it at a ground on the motor - i think the power steer bracket is ok on a 5m. and turn it over - if spark is seen - thats not your problem, but if you cant see spark, you know its in the igniton system.
ALSO:
has the car been sitting for ages with this old fuel? if so, i bet my balls its rotten fuel in the tank not burning properly.
i had this problem with my hilux been sitting for 8 years, the fuel turned into smelly shit with a lacquer like slime in it - the motor wouldnt run on it. I was bedazzled so chucked away the motor thinking it was rooted - to discover the tank was full of this slime shit that wouldnt let the motor run....Cure was to drain the tank and put about 8L of metho in it, let that soak then gurney the tank out.
good point that one.. pay to replace the fuel filter while you are at it too.
well found the problem.... well actually was a combination of problems...
1st there was the dodgy fuel pump.. replaced that and was gettign good fuel pressure.
Then replaced corrored distributer cap.. so getting good spark.
The with fresh fuel /filter/leads/plugs went to next problem.
.. this is rather embarrassing...
gave the injectors a bit of a tap on a whim.. (heard about it at a bbq) and it fired up.
It is running rough as at the moment but plan to run some injector cleaner through it and then address all the other problems .. eg. clutch goes through to the floor.. etc all from sittign for 6 years..
so yeah... couldnt see the forest for the trees...
So anyone that is having trouble starting after the car has been sittign for a long while.. where it starts then only runs for a second.... try tappign the injectors while yoru mate cranks it over..
dude i think from the sounds of that 1 second. in most cars theire is a white rectangle about the size of a cigarette lighter, a wire in each end. normally bolted to inner gards in engine bay if you unbolt it you will see a spring inside join wires connecting and start if runs turn of quick buy new one has happened to me a fiew times not sure what it is called
What you are describing no doubt sounds like it would be a Ballast Resister.Originally Posted by gargoyleman

injector cleaner wont unclog a blocked INJ.....you really need to pull them out and have them cleaned, bout $150 to do 6 inj's
but may aswell give it ago...
blake
cheers dude... managed to get it running though.. a quick blat roudn teh suburbs seemed to mostly clear it up..Originally Posted by crowncustom
yeah I'm debating that... took for a run and it will now idle by itself and sounds like its running on all 6 ... still a bit rough though.Originally Posted by IN 05 NT
