What about tailshaft output?
And do they just chop and change the bell housing?
The benefits I see are:
- They're a tried and true solution that can be built by any number of quality auto workshops
- The parts are cheap
- They're lite
- They're fully hydraulic so you don't need any shift box related electronics
- You can get a trans brake for it which in a situation with a small capacity engine and large turbo on the drag strip is exactly what you want from an auto
I guess there is a bunch of other auto's, C4 and TH350 etc, that you could use but the trimatic is a fair bit lighter and has been proven to work well.

Get a flange that works with the gearbox, you'll most likely need a new tailshaft anyway.
I've seen plenty of bellhousings that have been simply cut and shut where they just weld it together.
Mine hasn't been rebuilt yet, I'll be doing that in a few months when I do the engine. For now I'm putting it in close to stock, but I'll still wire it up as I intend to use it.
Well I'll throw in a vote for the 340, and not only because it was mine;-)
People I've known who have used traumatics for various things have had mixed opinions - a few have loved them, many have absolutely detested them (i.e. broken supposedly 'unbreakable' boxes) - I think there are a lot of people out there that claim they can build one that clearly can't.
I'd suggest the 340 should do you fine with the sort of power I'm guessing you're aiming for with the 1G, as well as being easier to fit.
KEAS built Jatco is my vote! Why not give him a ring and see what he says?
I have, a while back. Can't entirely remember the output, but it was a bit dearer than the a340e. And then there was the bell housing issue.
I will post up some pics of the bellhousing I had made by Paul at KEAS. It is completed, and in the mail now so to speak.
The gearbox decision all comes down to what you want from the box. I had driven a 350kw KEAS Jatco box in my mates VL Turbo. It is faultless, and can be easily driven on a daily basis, even with a big convertor.
Regarding the shifter question, B&M shifters are operated by using a heavy cable to shift the linkage on the box. KEAS sell the brackets to make them work with the Jatco, and I am sure MV would do the same for the A340.
