    Default "Carlos Sainz" gearbox???

    hello

as some of you may know my gearbox is a bid dodgy, so ive been looking for solutions! Well I've been calling around and one workshop have said they have a "carlos sainz edition" gearbox and also referred to it as a "works" gearbox... does anyone know about these? or what he's talking about?

To the best of my knowledge, it's the close-ratio 5 speed with dual syncro that comes out of the GT4 RC/GT4 Carlos Sainz/GT4 Rallye ST185s? however he was claiming he's 'pretty sure' its actually a 6 speed.. anyone got any info that might help here? Thanks,

    JP

It isn't a 6 speed, it is pretty much as you described it....

Ask for a "crunch free guarantee". Just cause its the tougher synchro setup doesn't mean its immune from the typical 2nd-3rd change crunch.

I went for a ST205 on my GT4, purely because it was a fair bit newer with less kms on it.

Most ST185 gear boxes would be getting close to needing a rebuild now. ST205 would be better if you can get one with low kms.

the 'rally' (not "rallye") box is a special super close ratio box and not suited to street cars. Super -rare.It was only sold in stripped out GT4 rally models in japan. These are the cars bought by professional teams for conversion to rally use. they had no air-con etc
The limited edition "saintz" cars are just stock boxes. The 185 GpA cars used a double synco mechanism just like the 205.
I agree, all 185 boxes are ready for rebuild. We are fixing 205's regualrly now. www.roadandtrack.net.au
