Default Misfire / Running on 2/4cyl 18RG help.

    Hey all.

As we all know im about a month away from completing a 1GGTE swap.

Do ya think the 18RG could keep it together till then ? no it cant .. its breaking down.

Driving to work i exitted the motorway and the motor sounded like a WRX ... very lumpy,
plus sluggish response and idle dropped from 1000 to 3-400 barely staying alive.

No more than a km down the road ... a starategic pot hole kicked it all back into life.

So im assuming something in the engine bay has come loose .. then been knocked back into place with the pothole.

What items are going to be the likely suspects under the hood?
All igntion is a year old (plugs / rotor / dissy cap / coil).

I'll be doing plugs oil and fuel filter as there overdue ... this Saturday.

    Any info appreciated!

Doubt it was running on 2clys, but anyway.
Check timing and make sure dizzy base bolt is tight, as that might have been the problem.

yeap this happened to my 2vz started sounding like a wrx, just check all the ignition components, dizzy, ignitor, rotor button, plugs, leads etc. Also test the resistance in the pickup coils inside the distributor. Test the resistance across leads as well. I'm actually fixing all these bits atm and turned out that the rotor button was cracked. But yeah it could be something simple like dizzy bolts being loose.

Vacuum advance actuator.... it's happened to me before too - the screw comes undone and it wobbles about, taking ignition timing with it too...

... it actually destroyed one of my motors once.

Bring it to me, and i'll tell you what j00 is done.

    Hi,

Take out the plugs and check them. How do they look? Clean and re-do the gap. Check your HT leads. Check your coil.

    wet plugs on 3 & 4.

carby is over fueling with mixture screw having no effect.

John @ Celica Spares had a look at it for me and said a pool dripped out the carby inlet when he turned it off.

Oh and apparently points were gone too.

Any one have a spare 18rg rear carby?! like 1-2months before 1G love ... this is all i needed

    Replace the carby feeding 3 & 4.
If that fixes it you know the problem.

The carby would jsut need re-kitting, a gasket have porbably been sucked through or as youve been told the float level needle is jammed.
