Is it on the car? If so just jack it up and turn one wheel...if the other one turns the same direction then you have an LSD..
Or you could do a fully hektik skidzby pressing X and Square at the same time and see how many lines you leave behind![]()
how do you know if you have an LSD hilux center without takin the center out of the housing?
are there any differences in the center casing?
any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

lick the top of it and wait for abit
if you start seeing funny things then its lsd
heheeh
after licking it, look in the filler/drain hole, see if you can see the pinion gears or not... perhaps....
or pull the centre out and check...

Go to your engine bay and look on the compliance plate mounted on the firewall.Originally Posted by jcmunga
There are numbers there for your gearbox and diff. If you have the original diff in your Lux then this will tell you if you have an LSD.
If you have different numbers then download this document which has a table for checking what diff you have.

open diff
in an LSD centre, it will look more like this, ie, can't see the pinion gear directly

If you have the diff off the ground, and you turn one wheel and they don't both go that direction, i'd say its not a clutch type lsd.. even if its shagged 3 ways to sunday, it should still do it..
no inspection plate or something? like oldie said, up the drain hole?
If it is out of the car get someone to hold the pinion (where the tailshaft bolts on) turn one hub;
If it not an LSd the other hub will turn backwards easily with little effort required to hold the pinion (if brakes aren't binding)
If it is an LSD it will try to make the pinion turn and the other side hub will try turn the same way.

while it's likley you don't have a torsen diff, they fail the jack it up and spin one wheel test.Originally Posted by jcmunga
