Hey Guys
Name is Christo - I'm from South Africa
When modifying Toy's - I guess the Forum becomes your best friend
I have a 2005 model toyota tazz 1300cc with carburator
I want to change it to the 20v silvertop - I guess the the power bug has bitten me badly![]()
Anyone has suggestions or input - please do not hold back - I want to show these hondaboyz arround here how a 1600 Toy looks on steroids
Changes I have thought of already...
Upgraded brakes - ventilated discs - a must if you don't want to be a christmas decoration
In Tank fuel pump for the new EFI system of the 20v (got some problems with this!?)
Engine mounting above the Alternator needs to be modified to fit the new Engine
Side shafts are also a bit different - the silvertop has a centre bearing system to deal with the increased power![]()
I will also be fitting a engine management system - the ones you get here are Dicktator - available and fitted by Ferroli performance ( http://www.ferroli.co.za/ )
NEw free flow stainless 2" exhaust custom made from Powerflow ( http://www.powerflowexhausts.com/ )
I need to get hold of a dash that will fit and have the updated dials - I NEEED A REV COUNTER MAN!
I know you guys have had some kind of input for me - I want to hold toyota's name high here too - hekp guys pleez!
I'll upload pics later - have the brakes and engine all ready
I have petrol tank and pump - but no fitting to house it inside????
Cheers - and enjoy your toy's

Hey Man, In Australia we have a problem when trying to fit an older engine to a newer car. Your Silvertop is from early 90's and your car is over 10 years older than it. If that doesn't bother you then it should be a relatively simple upgrade. If you buy a front cut (front half of the car) you will get upgraded front brakes and you can mix and match the engine mounts to fit (if the Tazz is still just a late model AE9x) I like the Tazz bonnets and Aerials
Your efi problem would be easily fixed by buying the EFI Tank with intank pump and the 3 lines that go from the tank to the fuel filter under the bonnet, from a wrecker.
The pic halfway down the page in this link is my fave: http://www.twincam.info/index.php?sh...=22201&hl=tazz

i can't find wat a tazz is... if it's anything the size of the vitz / yaris / echo or smaller, u'll have a problem making it fit.. but it's still possible![]()
Research has shown child in front seat causes accidents, accident in back seat causes child
The Tazz is based on the old AE92 chassis.

I was lucky to get a very good condition silvertop 20v from a engine shop here close to me is Cape Town (prob arround 30 000km guessing from the toyota factory fitted parts wear and tear)- there are a lot of similarities in this convertion - all mountings but the one above the alternator fit - hydrolic clutch - gear links are all the same
It is very hard to find a EFI pertol tank here - I have phoned over 20 Parts places - all I could find was the Bosch Pump and the tank - but still need the fitting to house the damn thing
The car will be a good looker - I'm planning some body upgrades too
I want to fit the clear lens tail lights - they can be viewed here - http://www.autostyle.co.za/prodview....brandstr=&str=
I want to build my own spoilers and side skirts - have never done things like this - but there is always a first time
Oh yes - thanks for the response - I know that we are arch rivals when it comes to sports - but anyone who drives a toy is my mate![]()

I like your project,
you could just run an external pump for your efi
what I want to know is how simular is this to a corolla?

I personally think that the external Fuel pump idea will be the best - just not sure about what size and if the current fuel lines will hold (Maybe want to fit a turbo later and not buy another pump - I will inspect them and see what I can make out - this project should be finnished in March/April - The problem is that this is my every day driver at the moment - so when I start with the engine - I need to complete and want to save some cash for unexpected problems that might arrise.
I was fortunate enough to have done some part in the Company project (Megaserve Technologies ISP - where I work) We built a Chevy Lumina that is quite a mean machine
If you want to see it - go to http://www.snakebite.co.za - but I still like my toy!

Pic of engine from the right
Pic of the back of the engine
Picture of upgraded calipers and vented discs
Picture of brake drums
and last but not least - the full ride![]()
Please - do comment - even bad ones will do

Hoe gaan dit?
1: What gearbox are you running? If you don't know, pull the Transaxle codes from the silver plate in the engine bay.
2: Did you get the AFM (Air Flow Meter, and pipe that goes from the AFM to the Plenum Box thing that you painted blue)?
3: Did you get any more of the wiring loom?
4: It is usually a good idea to change the Waterpump while you have the engine out of the car as it sucks to do later. These engines have a habit of water pump problems if they have been sitting for a while (all ours come from japan in seafreight containers.)
5: You have a dual crank pulley but I cant see power steer or Air con pumps. Are you doing those?
6: For your fuel pump there are a couple of considerations. Your current tank won't have a baffle in it. For an efi in-tank pump it is important not to run it dry so the baffle helps keep the pump wet when you corner on low tank level. If you don't find an EFI tank you will have to make sure you never let your tank level get too low. There is a good thread around this site somewhere about Lift Pumps and external EFI pumps. They show a standard carby pump used as the lift pump with a surge tank and the EFI pump running off that. Search for it as it is a good thread. There is also a good thread on http://www.twincam.info/forums on replacing the standard fuel filter with an inline one. That can make servicing it a bit easier.
7: Have a look at my member's rides thread on tc.org http://www.twincam.info/index.php?showtopic=20043 and also one by a member called Azeroth, a fellow countryman of yours.
8: For wiring tips there is a long-winded but very meaty writeup on http://www.rollamods.com/main.htm Tech AE101 20V 4age > efi AE92 wiring hints
9: I want your rear wing for my car
10: That's all I can think of for now. Lekker bly.

Thanks Streetfighter,
Your input has really helped me decide a lot of things
I am going to go for the external fuel pump - that is going to be easier to get than the damn bracket
I baught the motor with the gearbox - not sure which one it is - my guess is it is the 5 speed 4age FWD one - but how would I know the difference between the 5 and 6 speed with LSD?
The powersteering pump I have removed for the meantime.
I have aircon on my current 1300 - and it looks like it can fit in the same spot as the powersteering - but I would like to fit both - do you think it would be possible?
Regards

Using the A/C compressor that came with the AE101 can cost you a bundle in rerouting the piping. If you can get your old comp to fit then do it that way.
