Running Locked Ignition on Carbed 4AGE

From those photos you posted, oh corolla of olden goodness, it seems that the K (or is it AC) distributor meshes fine with the 4AGE driveshafts, and merely needs an adaptor plate to fit....?
If that is the case then i dare say that i have a 10mm thick piece of alloy which could serve that purpose...

EDIT: scratch that, it seems that the link in the 2nd post indicates that it adapts to a 4AG style input shaft.

Im running a 4age with dual 42dcoe's

Currently off the road, but I bought it already set up, it appears as though it's using fixed ignition with an aftermarket Bosch coil. However, when advancing/retarding the dizzy, it definitely makes a difference in the running of the engine.

So honestly, no clue whatsoever as to how its working, but I should be able to get pics of the loom/dizzy/coil setup in the next week or so.

Didn't seem to be any problem with spark! car was firing healthy.

Let me know if theres any developments, id love to figure out how the hell this sucker is firing correctly.

It seems most of this was covered already but I was just going to point out that as long as you can get a dizzy with a great than or equal to length and shaft size the rest is very easily taken care of.

When we tossed out the points dizzy from my GF's Datsun I just did the same thing, went and bought an elec dizzy from the wreckers, I drilled out the shaft and fitted the old drive gear and pin and for the little change in spacing (in this case it was 3mm taller from the gear being lower on the shaft) I simply made up a new spacer plate. Everything else plugged in and it carried vac advance.

mr2gze's idea seems pretty good, especially since you don't have to destroy the housing of a 4AGE dizzy to do it.

Why can't a 4A-C/4A-FC dizzy be used? Shouldn't cost much more than $50 from a wrecker.

Yeah, im tempted to do something similar, only put the reciever ring on the dizzy rather than in the head. Will see how much i can be bothered, because it seems that running locked ignition with points (via the bigport dizzy) will do it all just as well.

I ran my standard GE dizzy with no vac or mech advance for ages. 2 x 45mm webbers. As bill said above, it goes OK apart from cold start in winter and sometimes a little sluggish off the line. works fine in thrash mode tho..........

We figured it out... sort of.

Running locked ignition, little sluggish off the mark but does work great in "thrash mode" lol -roller

All EFI related systems removed.

Two wires running from the top of the coil, go to a little bosch mechanism (will source part number if you guys need it - could be a voltage suppressor/transformer etc), bosch mechanism outputs two more wires running to the top of the dizzy.

Not familiar with what wires on the dizzy run where, assuming 2 go to the tacho. other 2 would go to the standard 4age coil?

Only 2 of the wires coming from the dizzy are actually attached to anything (these run to the bosch mechanism)

So.... in theory (flame me if im wrong, wiring is a black art to me)...

The bosch mechanism is sensing the pulse of the dizzy as it spins, in turn, the pulse is converted through the mechanism and sent to the coil directing it when to fire...?

In any case, it works!

If you guys need it, ill sort out the loom and get some pics.

However - its the loom from a Ta22.... been modified to suit the 4age

The "Bosch Mechanism" is probably an EFI ignitor with intelligent dwell control.
