    Default ThermoSwitch for a 7MGE

Ok, since i cant post in the Thermoswitch cattledog thread for some reason ill start a thread here.
Opinions on what temps to use for on/off for a Tridon thermoswitch.
    I was thinking 90/85 with a 82deg thermostat.

Also, does anyone know the fitting size of the blank plug on the 7M thermostat housing?

16x1.5mm thread, same as the drain cock on the radiator.

With my old setup my thermos came on (microleb controlled) at 85 degrees at switched off at 80 degrees, they never came on unless you were in stop start traffic even in summer normal driving, will see water temps sitting around the low 70's from my experience (measured at the drain cock which is cooler then the thermostat housing)

Sounds perfect to me. FWIW I'm running a 7m-gte with big PWR 2 pass aluminium radiator with twin EL thermofans, currently running a 95-90 tridon switch with an 82 deg thermostat. Current cooling issues aside, this will only see the fan turn on when idling and in heavy stop start traffic. I have a feeling the thermostat is too cool for the temp switch though, ideally I should have a 90-85 switch in but that means getting a different thread put into the rad.

Thats odd, because i have two fittings and they are both 16x1.5

There about about 2 fitting in the catalogue with that thread and they are weird looking .

1.5 is the pitch though? I can always measure the plug with verniers...

In my opinion you should be running the 'off' on the thermoswitch at least 5deg above the thermostat temp.

    I have an 82degC thermostat, and a 95/90 thermoswitch.

The car sits on 85degC while cruising, so I reckon a 90/85 will be turning on too early, and running for way to long.

im sure it is m17 with 1.5mm...

i used a 90/85 on my 7m and it worked a charm. these are cheap and easy to find at a wreckers in sv21 camrys, ae82/91/101 corollas, and st162 celicas. If you look hard enough theres a diagram on how to wire the fans up on this site.

    Hm, so 14x1.5 12x1.5 and 17x1.5...
Ill go out with the verniers when the engine cools down a bit

Wiring them up isnt the problem, i was just deciding on the values.

90/85 is the only way to go my fans were NEVER on, on the highway. i know as when the huge ass ones i had cut in, the voltage used to drop bigtime.
