    Default Ta22 Rebuild Opinions.

I have a Ta22 with very little rust and a good interier but no engine. I was thinking about an SR20DET in it with a hilux diff. and modded drive shaft. I've also been searching for a while on the forums and found some info on using supra or ford disk brakes to get rid of the drum brakes but none of the posts i found really tell the difficulty of the install or a suspension that will mate with it. I may have miss something but please do not flame me for it, I'm just trying to find out if then SR20DET is a good motor for the cars weight distribution as well as a disk setup all the way around with a newer suspension that'll fit in. I can TIG weld and fabricate parts which is no problem, I just have no idea where to start. I would like to end up with a decently power Ta22 that handles very well. I have about 5 1/2 grand for everything, just missing 2 grand until taxes come back. So I would like any suggestions you veterans have on what would be most logical setup for the Ta22 to have power and great handling. Thanks.

why not a 2t or something? ie a TOYOTA ENIGINE!

ah yeah im doing a disc conversion on a g series hilux diff at the moment, so are many others on here, it involves supra (namely ma70) discs that bolt up with, minor mods, however gianttomato has done the hard work for us. check out the classifieds for the thread on the ma70 calliper bracket.

aw yeah +rep for getting a toyota

You might need more than $5000 dude....but that'll get you started for a long term project

Hi Dmbandits. There are a few guys getting around the US with honda F20C engines. This seems like a good conversion, although keeping it toyota would be nice. You could also use a 3SGE Beams engine for similar results. Thats if your happy to keep the car atmo. If turbo is more your thing then the SR20DET is a good engine. But don't discount the 3SGTE or slapping a turbo on a 4AGZE as good toyota options. There is plenty of info on these conversions on toymods but check classic celica for the F20C stuff. Just be patient with the toymods search i find it a PITA myself but you can usually find what your after in the end.

As for the brakes it depends on whether you wish to keep the same stud pattern for the wheels or if your happy to change that. To keep the std celica stud pattern the Pug/corona/hilux conversion is good for the front. And there is a corona conversion for the rear but info seems a bit scarce on this as i am researching it myself. If your not concerned about stud patterns i'd look into a hilux rear diff with disc brakes and i'm not sure about the fronts but i'm sure there is a range of options.

Good luck with it all. Hope this was some help. And converions are never easy but they're usually worth it in the end.
