The Patrol did though, so its not like they had to redesign much.
Imagine if Toyota had submitted a "truck" engine for this

All 1UZ VL's are like this.
It doesn't affect the efficiency of the system in any great amount.

At a guess there would probably be at least a dozen 1UZ VL's in the country.
And probably up to 50 1UZ Commodores in general.

Lots are running twin turbo too.

Very tidy conversion. It looks like it's supposed to be there. The VL is probably my preferred commodore out of the lot.

but does it do the fully sik skiddz and doriftoozzzzz ?? yeh i'm sure it does..

hmm... now all it needs is a nice leathery and done up interior, and it'd be sweet as.! nicely done i reckon, and it looks quite at home in the bay.. i'm liking the range it gets per tank as well, but how big is the VL fuel tank? i remember filling up the VL for 57 bucks so i reckon it's got a 50 - 55 ish liter tank?

    Semi-related rant:
Has anyone else noticed that pretty much anyone outside the world of Toyotas refers to a 1UZ as a 'Lexus V8' and while they might know quite a bit about the engine if you call it a 1UZ they just get a blank look on their faces??

Ive lost count of how many people Ive spoken to about their mates/cuz's Lexus V8 powered <insert random bogan mobile here>'s but none of them have a clue if its a 1UZ or a 3UZ or wateva.

Try closer to 65-70 litre. RA40s have a 60ltr, and boganmobiles need bigger tanks than that. And giving a figure per tank is inaccurate, as how much fuel is left when its filled?? Fuel light comes on with sometimes 10 or more litres left.

Nice conversion tho. VLs would be the pick of the commonwhores as they are the least prone to rust, and are the least ugly. Holden were also considering a Lotus 2.5Ltr turbo engine for the VL.

    noted..

and also you wouldn't drive to the last drop of petrol and push it to the servo to find out exatly how much mileage u get to the full tank.. also other factors e.g. fuel evaporation, exact amount of fuel etc etc..

i was just after consumption values really... considering the VL is a lot lighter than the Celsiors and Lexus LS that it came from..

yeah, for all intensive purposes 55L is the usable capacity of the tank if my memory serves me, You'd be crazy to drive on the last 10litres, all that crap at the bottom of your 20 year old tank... yuck

How does the fuel evaporate?? The fuel system should be sealed, with a vent through the charcoal canister. The vapourised fuel which gets trapped in the charcoal canister then gets sucked into the intake manifold on startup, which the O2 sensor will account for. The only evaporation should be when you open the fuel cap to fuel it up, in which case itll be fark all.

say you're driving an st162 for example, that thing has a 60L tank, but even when dead-empty (only ever done it one, because mine has no fuel light), you still only ever can fill up around 53L tops. still, out of that 50L or so I can get over 600km of 'regular' driving, which suits me fine.
