Depends on how & where its mounted but it would have to add some strength no matter what.
hey guys,
well im about to purchase a full 6 point bolt in cage, with door bars and harness rail,
some ppl i have spoken to say that the stiffen the body abit, but a wld in cage greatly strengthens the shell,
any comment on this? as id like to know what your opinions are,![]()
cheers, blake![]()

yes they will to a degree, but the main thing is it will give you a bit of added saftey!
Weld in kills a bolt in in both departments unless its a very very bad weldin!
sweet,
im thinking of having the rear a weld in and the front keep it as the bolt in....
cheers guys for that info,
have you got any other tips for buying cages?...it will be a CAMS aproved cage no matter what, and most likely be going thru BOND BARS, as they have given me a quite a good price,
cheers, blake
Bond do a good job but there not cheap, if you dont know another quailty cage builder there the place to go.
PM sent
so far bond are the only place ive looked into as i cant really seem to find anything else on the net in syd/nsw,
well not by googling anyway....

A good bolt in cage should be no diff to a weld in.
Also the forces involved in an accident are far greater than that of the car body flexing... so a cage has no effect to the flex of the car id say you would be stuffed in an accident.
Bond are good, i had one in a ke20 and was very happy with it.
I would get a cage builder to build one to suit what you're after.
What sort of racing & how much of it are you planning to do.
Also you have to thin k what you want from the cage. Harness mounts? just roll over protection or to greatly stiffen the body etc.
Theres a guy at seven hills who does cages. Andrews Race Cars is what the place is called. You would have to ring them for more info cause i dont know anyone who has had a cage done by them.

harness mounts are a MUST, and roll over protection high on priority aswell,

i had a group C bolt in alloy cage from bond roll cages that i took out of the celica because it would flex near the A pillars in turn 1 at philip island .took it out and had a weld in put in with diagonals and also welded in to the front floor with 5mm metal upper and lower also on the seat belt mounts and through to the back spring mounts as well tagged along the A pillars and also where the top seat belt mount is as well .
now i can jack up the car and the door doesnt drop like with the std car and it has helped with the suspension as well ,not like it used to be driving a wet sponge the car now has a 12 point cage better than the 6point alloy
as far as i know, alloy cages are not not allowed for cams use?....
a mates dad was telling me that you can have the cage fully seam welded along the A pillar like you discribed,
does anyone know if the dash in the 23 will have to be hacked to fit the front cage in?...or do u reckon it will mould around it?
cheeeeeers, blake
Alloy cages went out years ago.
I've never seen a front or mid leg fully seam welded to the A or B pillars. It would be too hard to get it pressed exactly to shape. They are usually attached with one or two brackets welded to the cage and then welded or bolted (on the B pillar I've seen to the upper belt mount) in.
From memory the new specs say the front legs have to be straight or at least minimum distances between bends and can't bend around the dash so it would come straight down a ways back. Then have intrusion bars and other bracing in the leg/pillar/footwell section.

yeah you havent been able to get alloy approved since about 2000 i think.
The above sounds pretty much right but i havent looked at a CAMS manual for awhile.
Ive built a fair few cages but they were a little more complex and included suspension mounts & extras like that.
i gave this fella a call this morning, hes a bit out of my range, but sounds lie the cage is designed alot tighter,Originally Posted by LeeRoy
