Default E58 Gearbox: LSD or Not?

    Hey all,

As hundreds of others have done, I got an AE101 Levin 4AGZE frontcut and took the engine out for my sprinter. How do I tell if the E58 is LSD or not? Is there anything I can do other than putting the driveshafts in and spinning them? Is there anything on Vin plates or whatever?

Searching = useless because search ignores anything 3 letters or less, so E58 and LSD are both out of the question...

    Thanks.

Thanks. I'll keep looking around I guess unless someone has anything more definitive...

spin one of the output splines, and see if the other side spins the same way or not.

Otherwise, check the vehicle ID plate on the frontcut it came from.

What do I look for on the VIN to know if it's LSD or not though? I have it, I just can't find anyone that knows what or where a code that means it's LSD is...

if the trans id is E58-11C, then it's was built at the factory with LSD. The C means it has LSD.

Good FAQ. Sorry, was a bit hard to search for everything because of the stupid 4 char minimum on search keywords. Mine's LSD then.

Or, you could just pull the speedo drive unit out and have a look at the diff..
