Dear all,
I have a 1991 Toyota Cressida with standard A340E auto gearbox fitted. It might need a 1-2 shift solenoid. When in Drive and stationary say at a set of traffic lights, the gearbox sometimes hesitates to want pick up into first and then it drives off perfectly. It might only do this every 100 starts or more although fault code 62 is put out by the computer indicated a shorted or open 1-2 solenoid. I'm not sure how it can be either if it is intermittent. Has anyone experienced a solenoid problem like this and solved it? I'm wondering if it might be some corrosion on the pins on one of the plugs that go into the gearbox or simply some dirt in the gearbox oil.
Also, if it is the solenoid, does anyone where in Sydney I can purchase them for a reasonable price?
Thanks. Peter

So there should be a wiring harness near where the starter motor is that all the solenoid wire are located in, make sure no wires are severed or have bad contact. That may be causing the problemA couple of weeks ago I had the same problem with my MX83, transmission codes 62,63, and 64. It was found to be a problem at an electrical connector in the harness to the transmission located up near the starter motor. (1 broken wire, another with bare wires possibly shorted)
Check that, it's one place where the circuits for all three transmission solenoids come together, and can easily come apart. IE "Severed"
