Feral4mr2 used a stock bluetop with two headgaskets with his turbo setup for a while (as far as I know he still is).
howdy guys, lately ive been thinking of building a cheap shit 4age turbo to stuff around with, since ive got most of a spare bluetop laying around doing nothing, and turbo manifold. just need head and inlet and turbo stuff to make it all happen.
so ive been looking into getting some off the shelf turbo pistons to keep the price down (found wiseco's somewhere for mid $500's) but all the pistons ive found are for 20mm gudgon pin for obvious reasons.
does anyone know of someone that makes inexpensive forged 4agze pistons for 18mm rods, or would any other supplier charge minimal amounts to make the same pistons as they advertise, just with an 18mm little end? or would they charge "custom prices"?
if all else fails i may have to ceramic coat a set of N/A pistons and get it properly tuned straight off the bat, and run moderate boost. i must say, it would be interesting playing round with the 'weak' engine, with highish comp + turbo, to see how it lasts/how much it can take!
any help would be much appreciated, Cameron.

Strange things are afoot at the circle K
it was actualy the later 7 rib red and black top, but still with 9.4:1 c/r casties. had 2 HG's for just over 3 years @ 12psi. am now running 12psi with only 1 HG and same cast pistons.
just add that i use 4agze ECU, injectors etc. and a good w2a i/c set-up.
many people have turbo'd stock early and later ge's with much sucsess.
go for it and have fun!![]()
thanks feral4mr2. you wouldnt happen to know how thick those 2 headgaskets were compressed by any chance?
umm... the old metal 3 peice i used (pulled apart and relayered with hylomar) was 1mm thick, the other gasket was a ACL monotorque, i think they are about 1.6mm.
Cam,
I would personaly stay away from wiseco car pistons, 2 stroke pistons are fine but there car stuff i find quite substandard i may be a bit biased as i make these and they arent anywhere near that price but i ran a set of wiseco`s in my mates r33 gtr with about 410 awkw and they lasted about a week before all of them had cracks. If this is a substitute for the v8 idea youll want more power than casties can handle. and as for the na piston if its in a 4agze block you will need to cut the oil squiters in the skirts but i can make 18mm pin pistons aswell or buy the cheap 20mm pistons and a set of crower i beams off horsepower in a box hope i was some help

Come on - You can't say that without giving us an idea of the price you can do them for..

i'm glad you made sense of the above post, i'm lost..![]()
thanks for the reply stu. yeah it may be a substitute for the V8 idea. im only after 230 flywheel horsepower, which i dont think would be out of the realm of n/a pistons with a lower c/r (i hope) its only a shitkicker bluetop block, so no oil squirters and no 20mm rods unfortunately. if i get serious later ill just buy a GZE block and go from there.Originally Posted by kickn5k
actually, what sort of ballpark price do ya reckon SPS would ask for a replica 4agze piston, just with 18mm pressfit little ends rather than the standard 20's?
Yeah sorry about that purely forgot, fair call.Originally Posted by Ben Wilson
For all 4cyl kits(pistons, rings, pins and gst) they are about $1250.
personally i would push the old n/a pistons to see how muck power they can handle.
but well chat on the rolla club gor.

hey cam, i've gotta 12A turbo for ya. I'll be putting a VL 0.64 exhaust housing on it due to the original being cracked. I will also be putting a new seal kit through it. 12A = TO3. I was considering putting this on my twinky but the minister of war/finance wont let me cause im spending way toooooo much on my drag (oops) street motor for the commy. Let me know if you want it or not cause I'd like to see it go to a good home. I'll bring it to the gor if you want.

When 2 Carbies on a 308 aren't enough.....
thanks for the replies stu and leigh,
thanks for the offer leigh, but my turbo manifold suits a t25/8 rather than the to3's. bugger. i would have jumped at it too.. ohwell back to looking for r33 RB25 turbo's.
No dramas cam. I'll keep a look out for those turbos for ya.
