    Default diff jigs

howdy all, im planing on doing a diff swap in the sprinter as the stocker, after 3weeks behind the new engine with only moderate run in driving its already getting a bit noisy. i plan to put a G-series hilux in, but im wondering if anyone has any pics of jigs they have used to swap mounts over or links that might help me out?. so far the only pictures of a jig i can find are the ones in AE86slut's members rides thread.

    cheers guys.

    thanks
going from those photos the jig is there to make sure all the mounts are the same distance apart on the new diff but how do you know where along the housing to weld the mounts? can you referrence from the centre of the pinion flange? just need one point on the diff that you can make the measurements from for the first mount then all other mounts can be welded on spaced according to that mount. if that made sense....

We really need to find someone with jigs for all. Make the diffs up and post them. They would make thousands. (not me though )

lol yeh. should be a bit easier for leaf springs but still gotta know where along the diff to put the mounts. just tricky to get the whole thing centre. maybe make a jig that the pinion flange bolts too?

it's farily easy job (but very boring)the idea is to make sure the std diff mounts wount move then once thats done just cut away the old diff housing and then sit the new diff on the jig and weld just make sure you measure it so it's even on both sides

pic it sitting on the jig

on the closest mount to the brake there will be for an example a 50mm gap from mount to drum( on the left side) then on the right side theres a 60mm gap from mount to drum just shuffle it over to even the gap out so it should be a good 55m gap each side then bust out the welder and weld away it's nothing hard just time consuming

dug up the images off the old forums..... imageshack deleted one of the images so ill have to find the pic again and re host it.

this one was quite easy since the RA40 diff was EXACT same width as the MX13 diff. AND the axle tube flange thing on the end had the same 4-bolt pattern

but anyway, i use 3 x 4" ( i think) box steel which slid into the mounts perfectly.

it looks pretty ugly since i didnt have the bolts in when welding and it buckeled out of shape, i heated it for a while and smashed it with a big hammer.

i originally was going to also use a flat plate that mounted to the banjo mounting face but ended up realising it wasnt neccesary.

so sam you reckon just weld everything on so its even measurement on the diff? but still keep the same distances between each mount. work from the outside in kind of thing?
    Cheers
