Fired once and not again!!! help!!

i know the magna's manual or auto had to have the foot brake pressed to start the thing.

and other 1 i heard was a car (cant remember which) had to be fliv\cked to reds .. then off.. then reds and crank.

with a fluke crank it sounds like you may have coincidentally done the "correct" crank procedure once???

pure speculation ... any1 know a starting procedure for a car your motor is out of?

like someone said does it have security on the ecu

i need to know what year and model the 2zz came out of and i can tell if it has security

if tis an aussie 2zz then i does have security

if its a jap 2zz then it doesnt have security

i have done a jap 2zz into an echo and had no probs starting it
but they have a funny setup with temp and thermo fan things on the echo so bit of a pain to get working perfect

but try to find out if it is an aussie model 2zz cause yr fukt then heheehe
pain in the ass to get it working if it has security

i will be investing in a diagnostic scanner in few months
it does obd2
and alot of new jap engines these days run obd2 so unless u have a scanner u can not get codes

try leaving ignition on for afew hours then starting it without turning ignition off

this might bypass security if it starts then the ecu has security
not sure if it will work but it does work on holdens

that will not work if its an aussie 2zz they have the transponder inside the key and only way to bypass is buy a new ecu and keys unless you have a black master key
at work we have a pamphlet of a guy over east that can recode keys with out replacing the ecu he may be able to bypass it also i will try to find the number if your interested

im also 90 percent sure (on toyotas at least)you can get codes from obd2 with out the scanner just have to bridge out two wires in the connecter near the brake pedal


i also think thats its awesome that you got rid of that poor excuse for a manualised/auto just generally shit gearbox/clutch setup from the mrs

cheers guys appreciate the info, the motor is out of a sportivo corolla, not sure wot year though. Im told it does NOT have the security crap in it.

A bit more info, apparantly the engine is using a 1ZZ engine harness with an adaptor harness at the ECU to change a few wires round to suit the 2ZZ ECU, dunno if that helps with anything.
Also apparantly the 1ZZ computer DID have the security in it, but the new 2ZZ ECU does not. Could there be something in the car somewhere else?? Security wise i mean? although it does appears that coils etc are getting power. Just maybe some sort of ECU output is not happening.

Ok just found out it is an Aussie motor but is running a UK spec ECU

did u try leavin ign on for awhile then trying to start it


you really need diag plug and a scanner on there to see what its doin otherwise yr wasting yr time

using a 1zz loom on a 2zz engine with 2zz ecu is dodgey anyway hehe

just spoke to guy i know from toyota

he recons most late model ecus are security enable now world wide

were as before only jap ones didnt have security

so if the 2zz ecu is around 2000 or newer then u might have a problem

in few months ill be starting to learn recoding keys and stuff for ecus

but at end of day its not a cheap thing to do so people will have to start adding extra costs to their conversions

But never mind cos I GOT THE BASTARD RUNNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turns out the TPS was wired up backwards and giving a WOT reading all the time, still cant explain why the bloody thing ran once though!!!

Now she starts every time, just doesnt want to idle smoothly, just about to weld in the O2 sensor to see if that helps the idle.

I must say it revs like you wouldnt believe!!!!! Screams like a motorbike on song... cant wait to see it in action, could be a quick little thing.

congrats on getting the motor running... 2ZZ is the hotness, lucky you to be able to afford one and more so running in an MR2.. i was going to suggest the transponder key, but yea hey kudos on getting it running

on a side note if you want to check engine codes on the obd2 system without a scanner you need to bridge out the tc pin 13 and cg pin 4 on the dlc3 connector near the brake pedal

yeah man i'l try get around to posting up some pics for ya's. Although it doesnt really look much at the moment.

The car still doesnt seem to want to idle properly yet. Its a pain in the ass cos the manifold is very tight up to the firewall and hard to get to at all.

Obviously in the Corolla it would be right in front of ya and easy to get at.
Ah well i shall continue to get it running right.....one way or another

Hmm... I have 2 possible reasons why it would have run once.

1. you had the throttle wide open when it started, making it think it was closed. It wouldnt have revved too high as it would not have gotten much fuel.

2. you have an intermittent problem with the TPS where it went open circuit for some unknown reason(possible internally broken wire) and went back to normal afterward.

But either way, kudos for being a persistant bastard.

Ecohilux, So how can you read the codes that come out of the ecu without the diagnostics tool?

how long did it take you to do the conversion? every conversion i do wheather it takes me 2 weeks or 6 months, i seem to have dramas with fuel, therefore causing it to idle rough, just empty the tank and put 10 litres of new fuel in seems to work, may not be your problem but something so simple is a start.....
