    Default CT12 variations

    hey guys,

just did a quick search incase this topic has been covered before, but found nothing.

i'm just wondering if there's any documented differences between the CT12 turbos, reason i ask is that i purchased a second hand pair (one of which was dead) of CT12's for my 1G to replace the original pair, however i only used 1 good one from the old pair, and 1 from the new pair. so i now have 2 good ones (ready to be used), and 2 spare bad ones.

the other day my old man noticed one of the turbos has a bell mouthed inlet housing, however the surface finish doesn't look like an aftermarket job, it's only fairly rough, further inspection shows the compressor wheel to be approx 2mm larger in diameter then the other. the inlet housing has different casting markings as well, the smaller has "1" while the larger has "2" cast in,

is anyone able to elaborate on the differences?

    cheers

Sounds like one is a Gen1/2 version and the other is a Gen3. The larger of the two will be the latter.

well that's what i thought... but i'm almost certain that the smaller of the set was from my car, which is a gen3... though i could be wrong, will look into it further when i have the time.
